[Solved] uplay is unable to start your download ...

uplay is unable to start your download. check that you have an active internet connection and sufficient space on your hard drive then try again.
This started to happen at about 24 GB in to the download.

I solved the issue for me before coming here, just wanted to share the solution

    TL;DR;
    Solution:
The "Possible cdn error" seemed to be a reasonable cause, so I connected to my VPN to make sure I was routed to another cdn, and now now it downloads as it should again.

    The long story

To state the obvious, my connection works just fine, and there's plenty of space.Restarting and reinstalling uplay did not help either.

This occurred all day yesterday, and this morning. I found a few threads from about a year ago, among those a reddit thread where a Ubisoft staff member asked the users to send in logs before reinstalling uplay.

So I took a look at the logs, and found this error a few times:
    Code:
    [ 8940] 2017-03-08 08:16:29 [ 8324] ERROR DownloadEdisonRequired.cpp (419) Failed to download slice B8BEAFAE011347E3517D4B656C01D1D8E84A24ED (download: 1718777D23F1ABA0D9EE39047EE979AA658741C5) to file E:/Games/Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands/uplay_download/1771/DataPC_GRN_WorldMap.forge. Possible cdn error.
Together with quite a few "Failed to decompress data [...]" and "Download size mismatch, was 0, should be 1974167"

The only hint to what cdn might have caused the error in the logs is the following line:
    Code:
    [ 8940] 2017-03-08 08:18:00 [ 8324] ERROR JobHttp.cpp (150) Http status code is none for url https://ubistatic3-a.akamaihd.net/orbit/uplay_launcher_2_0/test_internet.txt.
But that could also have occurred while connecting to the vpn, so no promises.

I have the same issue since yesterday but it hasn't been able to download anything at all, just gives the error you stated: uplay is unable to start your download. check that you have an active internet connection and sufficient space on your hard drive then try again.

What about ppl without a VPN?

OVPN (not sure about link policy here, but it will most likely be your first hit on google, Swedish company but you can easily switch language in top right corner of their site) offers a free five hour trial of their VPN services, if your internet connection is fast enough that should hopefully be enough time to download it.
