Like a legit training mode where we can make the training dummy do things that we want or see how much damage each attack does (numbers, not just visually). I feel like it'd be easier to "get better" or practice certain matchups if we had such a thing. There's a lot of fighting games you can use as reference.
Anyways, if anyone else agrees, please voice your opinion here.
Yeah that's not good enough. I'd like to know specifics. Like how to punish every single attack a character has with my character. What's guaranteed and what's not after you parry a move, the max range of an attack, etc. What's given to us is simply not enough.Originally Posted by LuciferNS Go to original post
Again, it's not good enough. Who cares about learning the combos. This isn't a complex fighting game where that's even a problem. The combos are simple. You can't learn specifics when a bot is on auto-pilot. Would you have learned that you could get a guaranteed overhead heavy if you parry a light attack from peacekeeper? You also get a guaranteed guardbreak on warden if you block his zone, but at what distance is it safe? Obviously max, but where's the cutoff? Can all characters do this?Originally Posted by psyminion Go to original post
as the OP mentioned custom match is at most a (lackluster) workaround at the moment. Why?Originally Posted by psyminion Go to original post
1. settings are not saved - want to change any match parameter (damage, bot type etc. ) you have to set up a new match and adjust all the settings again!
2. rounds waste time. Training should not use match mechanics - no one wants to see the round 1,2,3,x intro, nor do we need to see executions by the AI and winning emote animations after a kill in training (again this wastes a lot of time)
3. no way to set up (or even better record) bot actions. so no way to efficiently practice certain situations over and over again - there are so many different characters (and more to come in the future), that it is quite hard to get a good grasp of what they can do, what it looks like and how it is timed.
4. no display of player or AI inputs. As there is no replay feature, it is sometimes hard to tell what happened. what hit me exactly, did I block in the right direction etc. etc.
5.no way to change bot-type or player class on the fly without returning to the main menu. This again wastes a lot of time (see 1.)
I could name many other things, but this should do for now. With the announced introduction of ranked mode and new players picking up the game (hopefully) during the next couple months a solid practice mode is a must have feature if the devs want to make the game as attractive as possible to newcomers (and vets). Also I (and I guess many other players as well) prefer to "git gud" by training in an efficient manner and not by using mediocre, time-wasting workarounds.
TL,DR: custom match is no adequate substitute for a full fledged practice mode. A solid (competitive) fighting game needs a full fledged practice mode that is efficient, highly customizeable, fun and doesn't waste the player's time.
This would really be an awesome addition to this fighter-like game. People could practice endlessly against meta tactics and develop ways to counter them!
It would mean the end of most (if not all) the "This is OP, no THAT is OP, no this is!" bullcrap that gets spouted all over the forums everyday!
yeah I'm a filthy casual.Originally Posted by SworNaan Go to original post
I use the custom mode to train with friends and we both learn our respective heroes and how best to counter and block etc.
I've found the best way to get what I want out of life is to make the best of what I have.
good for you, so I guess all the people who do not have friends ready 24/7 to train with them should just suck it up. makes sense...Originally Posted by psyminion Go to original post
oh and kindly keep the life lessons to yourself. we're simply discussing reasonable and quite common quality of life (gaming) improvements some of us would like to see in the game.
That would be great, except, in my case, EVERY practice mode loads with black graphics.
I have HUD elements, but nothing else. This also occasionally happens with the online mode, so that I have to quit the game.
It was so bad yesterday that it was every other duel match I had to quit because of it.
I'm sorry I pre-ordered this. Last time I do this with a Ubisoft title.
But I digress. I'd like to practice, and can't. AND I'm on a console.
