Today I was talking to a friend of mine in skype (well - to be honest not a very close friend). We studied computer science together a couple years ago and he moved to france, working for Ubisoft HQ now. I was not sure if he would answer me, but I askes him about the For Honor problem with P2P and he told me, that it was a calculated problem. The CEO´s wanted the game to be as cost effienct as possible, which meant NOT using dedicated server. Instead they decided to outsource all the calculations on the client side(s). I then asked him, if there are any chances that the devs are working on dedicated system and he said that there are currently no plans on this and that it would take huge affords to rewrite the whole netcode (practically this is not going to happen). There are only a handful people still working on For Honor (for the DLC / Ingame Shop stuff) and no one of the core team is still involved - instead they moved on to the next project.
So here you go... RIP dedicated servers - thanks CEO´s for this stupid decision.
I hate ubisoft as much as anyone else, but I've made it a point to not trust posts that say "I'm friends with the guy who made this thing". It could be true, but without names or chat transcripts or other forms of documentation I'm not taking anything said here to heart.Originally Posted by Ox1Act1on Go to original post
To prove my point, a friend of mine on ps4 used to work for riot games, he's on these forums under Rhodri343 or something (i have him friended on ps4 so i don't know his forum name) and he says that the networking they chose is actually the best option they could have gone with on this game. In dedicated servers, you'll have major individual lag, latency, and other network issues that people seem to forget. In a game like this, that requires timing and responsiveness, having the networks be linked between the players rather than sent over a server is the better option. Disconnects are not as bad as having straight up unwinnable fights due to your responses not being in time with what the server is seeing. Hell, even now people have some instances of responsiveness just not working, especially on slower characters. If they went dedicated, that would be plaguing the game and is MUCH harder to fix - as in, not feasibly possible.
So yes, dedicated servers are likely never going to happen. But no, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I call BS. Either your full of it or your not very close friend is. I worked for Sony DADC for over 20 years. Companies that deal with electronics, gaming, or anything that has to do with technology are very strict when it comes to Inside information. If I was to take just a picture of a game cover before Sony released it. I wouldve got fired instantly. Hell, the guards even looked between the bread of my sandwhich. No Joke. I even had to do a exit interview and sign papers to not release any information to the public or competitors or I could be sued by Sony.
So for you to come here and say you got inside info from the HQ. Its total bull. Either from you or your friend.
Lol what are they gonna do? Read the guy's mind?Originally Posted by RatedChaotic Go to original post

Quit the ****. I know you're mad but this is obviously untrue :X. Take it from me because I have a friend who's working for Ubisoft in Montreal.
