I posted by full reaction to Wildlands here, but in short, after 15 years of playing Ghost Recon, and after 2 years of watching Wildlands develop - on release day I say congratulations to Ubisoft for a really great game in Ghost Recon Wildlands.
They've taken it back to its roots with total freedom of choice (no more on the rails campaign missions), and they've also modernised it with a truly stunning massive open world with remarkable detail.
There are some issues of course, but these are already being worked on I know, and with the support moving forward I am sure that Wildlands is going to be the biggest Ghost Recon success ever.
I wasn't at all surprised to see the 8 and 9/10 review scores being published yesterday - Wildlands is a solid game. Many are calling it the most effective franchise reboot they have ever seen.
Congrats Ubi, congrats Dominic and everyone at the design studio in Paris, and Long Live Ghost Recon!
My GR experience over the years is a bit different than Rocky's. I loved the original RSE versions; bought the first Ubi version; played a few missions then uninstalled it and thoroughly cursed Ubi for ruining the series.
Here I am again. I really liked the OB (c'mon it was a for real Demo--something I haven't seen in years), and though many others had all types of performance issues; I did not, and it ran quite well on my rig. I only played a couple of hours this AM, then flamed out, but the full game ran very similarly to the OB.
Quite a few steps forward for Ubi in a number of game development areas. I love the increased viewing/shooting diatance. As usual Ubi maintains their high standard of beautiful game worlds. Game play and internal game logic is MUCH better than that first much cursed Ubi GR; though not as good as the RSE versions.
If only they'd make a version where the guns aren't "balanced for game play" and mimiced their real world counter parts, and suppressors didn't scrub off performance.
Good job on evolving the game and your craft!
I agree, being and OGR fan myself I am more than happy. I think after they have sorted a few of the issues this will be a long lived game, the possibilities are near endless.
As much as I think the OGR was one of the greatest games ever I can see from a business point of view why they need to appeal to a wider market and i think they have done that.
Most definitely (and yes, I was around for the beginning of both franchises... I'm oldOriginally Posted by EazzyE84 Go to original post)!
