Add an option to exchange unwanted items for steel in addition to materials

As in the title, it would be nice to sell those heroic items that I will only ever scrap since my character is geared up and fully upgraded. I'm sitting on pile of materials that's big enough to upgrade other 3 characters in the same faction (that I haven't even touched yet)- and this pile will get even bigger by then. An option to exchange those unwanted items for steel would be really nice and would make that painful grind for scavenger crates a little bit pleasant. It doesn't have to be much, like 10% of what you're required to spend to upgrade item to a higher gear score, or maybe a fixed ammount depending on item tier (5 steel for white gear, 10 for blue and 20 for purple).

I'm completely aware that someone probably posted something like this but I haven't found any thread on this topic on first few pages and I'm not going to dig any deeper- sorry! Still I wanted to share this idea with you guys, so we could make this game better together.

That's why I'm talking about small amounts like 5-20, it wouldn't really hurt them and people who are willing to pay for steel would do that anyway. At some point materials become obsolete and hoarding even more of them is simply worthless.

    sadly they are too greedy...

if they werent, we could change appearence for salvage because that would actually make sense.
and cosmetics wouldnt cost as much as they do now... earning them by just playing is ridiculous...
we also wouldnt have a 100 ****ing euro steel-pack in the shop.

I don't want to complain or blame the developers for how things work right now. I just want to highlight an issue that is salvage/item drops becoming useless after you upgrade your character. You just stop getting rewared at some point after you reached a certain level. Doing something about it would totally encourage (at least me) to play and try other heroes. Knowing that I'll just get to the same point with another hero just makes it boring and dull before I even started. If I could somehow boost my progress on other characters with all that scrap (Having so much that I can fully upgrade another hero right away when I get to that purple gear doesn't change anything since I'll have even more of it before I reach reputation 3)- for example buying scavenger crates with it. There's at least 3 ways to fix that - items to steel, salvage to steel, salvage to scavenger crates.

If i had more space to hoard sets maybe it would be different. Its hard to save cool gear because i keep thinking maybe they will adjust the stats to make the useless ones more useful.

Also this. Changing appearance for salvge would somehow make sense, but again, you'd do it once or twice and go back to hoarding it.

Summing things up- right now at some point people who spent enough time to level up a character to reputation 3 and beyond and managed to aquire heroic items that are suitable for their playstyle will eventually start getting items that they don't need anymore, resulting in more salvage piling up. If they decide to play another hero from the same faction they will have enough salvage to fully upgrade it (making it easier which is good, since it rewards you for devoting to this faction) and by reputation 3 on the new character they will have even more of scrap materials.

There's several things that could address this issue which I mentioned in my earlier post, but I will now list so they're clearly visible:

-Selling unwanted items for steel (this would reward people who are willing to master only one character and would make the grind for executions, emotes, outfits a little bit easier), small amounts of steel would be totally fine

-Exchanging salvage for steel (same as above, however better items that are giving more salvage would make it somehow faster)

-Exchanging salvage for scavenger crates (this change would reward you only within single faction- doesn't need an explanation why), however this isn't the best solution since you'd be stuck with a big pile of salvage after you upgrade every hero within one faction, which would of course take a while but you'd be back to the beginning.

I think above changes or at least one of the first two mentioned would make it a lot more rewarding for people who play only one hero, and would in fact encourage them to try other characters and also resolve an issue that at some point- sooner or later everyone will come across.

Definitely a great idea: though the separate ways of re-using salvage are good the simplest really is to exchange salvage for steel. At what rate you ask? 2-1 or 3-1 salvage-to-steel would probably be ok, 5-to-1 would definitely be too cheap on Ubi's end. But any rate is better than no rate... An addition measure Ubi could take so this is aimed at those who hoard salvage (for the aforementioned reasons) is to set a minimum salvage amount to be exchanged: e.g., 3000, where then you immediately get something like 1000 steel; buys you two crates and gives an incentive to keep playing characters.

Hope this thread does get its love ;-)
