Can we just stop revenge gaining at all in a 1 vs 1? Nothing like going in to help a teammate, just to have your 1 attack blocked and giving him revenge mode.
Or even worse, in a long drawn out 1 vs 1, you finally penetrate his defenses, almost kill the guy, but then he gets revenge mode.
Revenge should only accumulate when you are attacked by more than 1 person. That's what it was meant for.
I gotta say, that's part of the thrill for me. If I turn up at a 1v1 taking place, I need to make a decision if my involvement is going to help, or if it's going to trigger a revenge. Most of the time, if my TM is doing well, I'll hold off. But sometimes you feel the need to get involved and sometimes it backfires. I think it's a strong mechanic.
I can't speak for 1v1s triggering revenge by themselves, hasn't happened to me a lot. But I'm also not high level enough to have experienced the revenge gear stacks that everyone seems so upset about
Revange is OK.... nothing is better than see crying enemy while you fill revange metter while just simple blocking / dodging -> trigger revange -> knock down an enemy -> 1 hit TKO
Fights is only about revange. Learn it.
Edit: Ok, 1 hit for Peacekeepers and Nobushi. This is a reason why I like fighting them. 1 hit-kill are absolutely great!
Oh yes, turtle solves everything *rolls eyes* I'm literally suggesting a way to fix how broken the revenge mechanic is and you are like "derp, just deal with it, derp" give me a break.
You shouldn't have a situation where you go to help your friend out, 2 vs 1 a guy, and after he blocks you a single time he pops revenge since he was building that meter up the whole time in the 1 vs 1.

As soon as they gain revenge, you can't hit them any more. They can hold on to revenge for 15 seconds or so without activating it.
So 15 seconds of invincibility on top of 11.2 seconds of massive advantage.
Then they get out of revenge and it take them about 2 seconds to get another revenge and rinse and repeat.
If you can't see revenge in its current state being a problem. You are practically alone. And you'll be playing alone soon enough when the rest of the player-base abandons this trash game.
Edit: also, top tier players can tell the difference between feints and hits. So don't try to say you can feint to force out the revenge because at the highest levels that doesn't work either.

Yesterday in deatmatch I saw from distance how my teammates - possibly newbies - died even when they outnumber one enemy. They were 3v1 and all died. Why? Because they use same strategy like you - why you attacking enemy from side with blockable attack? It is so easy to block -> filling his revange! ... so ... if you not know how attack an enemy from a side, than I can understand why you are angry. Get skills.
