I haven't found the range finder in game, and am not actively searching for it. Again, I have no need for it... so I couldn't tell you how it does or doesn't work. Just a thought that it would give a read-out and you could just transfer the known variable at that point to your other weapon platform... Maybe it is just a buff... there are some certainly silly things in game.Originally Posted by BurntPowder Go to original post
I agree it would be neat to have wind, rain, and other factors affecting the rounds... but no real need. Again, the farthest I am engaging is about 300m on average. Sure, some others may have different play styles, but enemies rendering and fun seem to go out the window over 600m.
Maybe the new Sniper Elite will be more what the sniper crowd is looking for? This game seems to be pretty set in its ways with close/medium range fights.
With HUD off, and markers disabled, no. You wouldn't get the range.Originally Posted by MrSchmo2 Go to original post
Around 500m you will lose mark unless you have friend who is closer, but you can get somewhat over 700m if you keep looking at the enemy while backing away so it stays rendered. My record is 722m with friend staying closer to the enemy so enemy was spotted.Originally Posted by AkimuMC Go to original post
Yeah, I have read getting a friend into an area will render it allowing these shots, but how effective is it having a squad member 700+m away? With the style of scopes we have, the ballistics, and the amount of cover in most of the "bases", I just don't see the need for a 700+m overwatch member. I suppose if your mission was to assassinate a particular individual, this would be a situation to utilize long range engagements, but most of the missions I have completed would not have required this role. And me personally, I would not be having much fun sitting 700+m away getting few shots in due to cover/concealment of the base designs...Originally Posted by Kossuranta Go to original post
To each their own I suppose. I just don't see a need for long range engagements. At least not in my play style.
No wonder the military is going down hill! When we rely on technology to much, what do you do when the battery dies?Originally Posted by BurntPowder Go to original post
Seriously man! I know in the Marine Corps one of the requirements for a new piece of gear (for the most part for your run-of-the-mill 0300 Grunt) is that they don't require a battery and that if power is required at all, it must be reasonably/quickly re-chargeable in the field.
I know I have a solar-panel array that folds up into a rectangle about 12" X 10" I can just unfold and lay over my pack to re-charge anything that is absolutely 1000% necessary.
Quite frankly, the vast majority of the time I won't bring anything at all that needed a charge with me into the bush. Just one more thing that potentially goes wrong![]()
