Since it is now official, there will be a multiplayer component. I thought it would be a good idea to start to define what we as a community view as the essential components and features that should be within Ghost Recon Wildlands online competitive multiplayer. I will just start by listing a few that I would like to make sure are included.
At the top of my list is a hardcore mode basically. I don't know if it's going to be matchmaking or lobbies like back in the day. I personally like to see the same lobby system, which enabled the host to define the exact rules. For example, no explosives, no drones, no kill cam, respawn timer settings , that sort of stuff. This is how we use play back in the day in the rooms we joined or hosted.
Whether or not it functions on matchmaking or the lobby system, it definitely needs to be region locked. Perhaps even taking a page out of Battlefields book and offering rent a server as an option. I personally would love that. It would give people the option to customize their rules, maps, etc.
I’m sure some of you guys will think of important things I left out. But I would like to reinforce the sentiment many of you have already addressed regarding this whole 4v4 thing. To me that make no sense. Ubi knows very well as do most GR vets, this is not a close quarters battle game like Rainbow 6 or Splinter cell, heck even RB6 Seige has a higher player count than 4v4. Sixteen players minimum makes the most sense. If you’re going to include PVP, and of course you guys should, do it right and do the franchise justice.
You guys did so many things right in G.R.A.W 1 and 2 IMO, keep up that tradition and add to it and you guys will fill a void that has been severely lacking in gaming since G.R.A.W2. That is the void that appeals to the mature, intelligent, strategic crowd that loves stealth and tactics in a team base military style game setting. Of course update it to today standards and add your new flare. But stay true to GR just like what you’ve done on the PVE side of things. Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you guys come up w/.
There should be some game modes with bigger maps and longer match times. PVP should take advantage of the large map in my opinion....
Escape and Evade game mode where a larger team searches for a smaller team (that could start off next to a crash site) in 1 square kilometer area or larger, (6v12 8v16 etc...) the evading team wins if they remain unfound after a certain time or maybe if they get to an extraction zone (so long as it was random in such a way the other team couldn't easily know where it was going to be given the point they spawned in/number of options of the extraction zone location could be)
CSAR Combat search and rescue game mode a team has to infiltrate an enemy area and destroy a downed aircraft after which they have to escape the area.
Hostage rescue a team has to rescue a hostage/High-Value Target and escape the area without being killed or captured. (In this game mode, the defending team can capture the attackers if an attacker surrenders they can avoid being killed
HVT game mode an attacking team would have to kill a high valued target that the defending team was protecting. The HVT could either be in a secure compound/building or on moving from one place to another. Game mode verity could have the attackers either have to kill or capture the HVT the defenders would not know which one it was. If it was HVT they would have to extract them while evadeing the enemy team like the hostage mode.
For the 4v4 (hopefully upped to 6v6 or 8v8 or just have those as options)
Have a game mode where each player has one life and there is an attacking and defending team that has to defend or destroy 2 objectives within a certain time period on smaller maps (essentialy something like Search & Destroy, Rainbow 6, or Counter Strike) forced game chat would be good as well.
It could be something like Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising's "Infiltration" game mode where a team has to destroy an objective (or multiple) (in a 1 square kilometer map) or eliminate all the enemy resistance within 35-45-50min time period.
8v8 at the bare minimum optimally could be around 12v12 (maybe 16v16)
Would have restricted spawns/only a set number of spawns per player/team or just one life depending on difficulty settings.
Something like Rush (in Battlefield) could be interesting not exactly rush but something with a series of objectives in a somewhat linear manner.
For some of the bigger maps have the attacking team start off by parachuting into the map.
On bigger Game modes/larger teams have a chat system where all players are in game chat within each 4 man squad, and with the press of a button they can chat with any of the other squads.
When I heard it was 4v4 PVP I thought it'd be cool if the match was in a region with a main objective and several side objectives. Capturing the main objective finishes the game. Team with the most score wins. Main objective could be worth 1000 points and side objectives worth 250 (or something like that). This would allow for teams to either fight for the main objective or defend the main objective until their team has enough points to win.
