Oks I'm writing to post this serious imbalance within the game. why is guard breaking a dodge even a thing within this game. Its an imbalance. its part of the reason guard break is spammed left and right across For Honor. I will also ask is this an intended feature of the game? I will continue this post buy writing feed back and explaining what the purpose of guard break is for. Explaining the purpose of dodge mechanics. I will also advise what changes need to be made to Balance the two all together.
Purpose of Guard Break
The Purpose of guard break is very simple and straight forward to explain its purpose is for the following Points.
1. Create an opening in the opponents guard.
2. give the player initiating the guard break the option to throw off a ledge. gain a free heavy or light attack. or create distance between the player and his opponent
Purpose of Dodging.
Again the Purpose of Dodging is straight forward and simple. I will list it within the following points.
1. Dodge a light or heavy attack
2. Dodge a guard break
3. Dodge an Unblockable.
4. Innitiate a quick Counter attack to the Opponents left or right side.
I will now take the time to address the imbalance of the broken dodge mechanic and guard breaking a dodge
As stated within the purpose of the mechanics. Guard breaking an opponents dodge is a true imbalance of the game. and thus leaves the Dodging Mechanic broken. I state the risk of dodging should be there However guard breaking a dodge should not be one of them as it leaves the following exploit. Aka a player being able to endlessly spam guard break off a opponent or players dodge. The Risks to a dodge should be as follows.
1. being hit froma light or heavy attack
2. being hit from an unblockable.
3. blocking the players dodge attack / parrying the dodge attack.
In Closing my advice and suggestion to further balance this game. Is to make dodging where it can no longer be broken. Thus ending the spam of guard break amking the player / opponent have to time there guard breaks and use them when there truly is an opening.
Guard Brakes are the counter for dodging, if guard breaks didn't counter dodges, it would in turn make dodging uncounterable in a wayOriginally Posted by Azrakel2 Go to original post
Guard Break is designed to counter defensive actions. For those classes where dodging is a key component (Assassins), you can attack during a dodge which counters an attempted GB while dodging.
I don't know why you want dodging to be a universal counter to everything. It already can dodge heavies/lights/unblockables, so it isn't exactly a risk. That's part of its purpose, is to dodge attacks. And it works really well, especially against those classes that use top attacks as a main method for initiations, or charge mechanics of some sort.

This needs to be stopped simply because of the warden being able to exploit it with their shield bash cancel into guard break. Honestly, I don't think it would be an issue to remove guard breaks countering dodges. Most guard breaks would land before the enemy even begins to dodge. Plus, you can't dodge repeatedly without a window between dodges for your attacker to catch you. I agree with the first post. I think it's broken.
thank you for your support as you have pointed out exactly further how its broken no dodges don't need a counter except for if you dodge in the direction of a heavy or light attack or combo then yes I agree you were dumb enough to do so get good. however guard breaking dodges is broken most guard breaks land first. this shouldn't even be a thing in for honor. guard breaks are ment to create openings not be a counter for dodges.Originally Posted by Duskmare Go to original post
Azrakel, what you're suggesting would make Assassins completely untouchable. In fact, most Assassins with a brain have already figured out that if they hit their attack button fast enough, they can go into the attack animation almost instantly, which already renders them immune to guard break.
Every move has a counter. The invulnerability frames on dodging are already detrimental to the game. What you're complaining about doesn't need to be "fixed" because it's not broken, it's working as intended.
I also have to disagree with that statement completely. ive seen peace keepers outdodge my zepher slash. ive seen other orochis block and parry that same move. ive seen raiders block and parry that move. ive seen nobushi, Valkyrie and Kenzie shutdown that same move with pure range. characters with shield seen em shut it down with pure blocking and defense. so there are other methods of counter attacking counter attacks. ive seen it first hand if you cant block or parry or deflect a dodge counter attack and have to rely on guard break then somethings wrong. its about player skill vs player skill not guard break the hell out of the gameOriginally Posted by SAVAGE_CABBAGE1 Go to original post
