I loved the original Ghost Recon titles back in the days, but lost interested with later titles, so when i decided to check out the open beta, i had no real expectation, since i did not follow the franchises for years.
When playing i was pleasantly surprised, that the game was less arcade than it seemed on first sight. i crancked up the difficulty and really enjoyed the gameplay being quite tactical and "authentic", like the older titles, but now with the added benefit of good coop implementation, which i and my friends (who also love tactical, challenging games) really enjoyed.
my concern is the direction ubi is trying to go with the title, as there are still many things that need tweaking (just tweaks, no big rewrites) to make it a true tactical shooter (difficulty options, spotting mechanics, respawn mechanic etc.). normally i would be very optimsitic, that this could be done easily, but with the "vin diesel hot wheels" trailer announced today, i am unsure if ubi is really trying to stay true to the series roots, or just wants to cater to the biggest crowd possible.
I woudl really hate to see the game morph into some kind of teenage-online-extravaganze with fast cars and funny hats (please: no funny hats!!!).
so, in short. i really enjoyed the beta. will buy, if i feel that ubi stays true to what i hope was their vision for the game
(no funny hats)!
