Read my post again. And again. Look at the post I replayed to.
IIf you still don't understand - I was explaining why warlords turtle and use headbutt to someone who complains that a defensive class plays... defensive. No "whining", just pure explanation. See the differance now? I don't want any changes to Warlord, I think he's completely fine and people only think he's too good as the game promotes defensive play overall of which Warlord is king.
I already fought some ultra defensive Warlords and Conquerors multiple times...as I said, there's always a breach somewhere you just have to find it.Originally Posted by MrForz Go to original post
I'm not saying that I never lost against a very defensive player, of course I did but what I mean is, at our level of play it's merely but a strategy to win and it's not more reliable than playing aggressive...unless you do it to absolute perfection which is extremely rare.
Look mindgames is never 100% skill, will always have a big luck involved. And big i mean around 30%+. Thats HUGE.Really? Less about skills? If you ask me which one between spamming combos/attacks and playing mindgame with your opponent requires more skills, I'll pick the latter everytime. If a fight is stressful, then it's a good fight.
I dont want to play a game with that much luck involved, i would rather just go play poker or something like that instead.
Playing a game when the best attack method is to mindgame your opponent=Short last appeal. It would feel terrible if i become good at that game, and then my skill cant determine what will happen but luck will instead. What is up with that?
Further, i know you are biased here since you wrote spamming attacks. But look, we with brain that know how it is when you get higher skill, DONT WANT THAT. We want a good balance between offense and defence. Some people like me want a game where everything is defendable with no chipdamage while others want something else.
I want to do good executiong and i believe that if you can combo your opponent it would open up tactics aswell.
This is my experience as well, was fun the first hours. Now its a boring game overall. And i mean BORING! Winning/playing a duel feels dull.Rank 9 Warlord here
At high levels this game is just parry's and light attacks and turtling ... I feel the game gets worse the more you learn about it and the higher levels that you play at .. high level play is extremely boring and becomes less about skill and more about just turtling till someone makes a mistake and basically just trying to guess what they are going to do next ... so telling people they don't like the game because they need to git gud is actually incorrect in this game as the better you get the more boring the game becomes ... as you just walk around each other circling and not wanting to be the guy that attacks first ..
Where as in lower levels it way more fun as you're charging in and throwing attacks ... actually using heavy attacks ... actually being able to GB someone lol and not having every heavy you throw parried ... the only place I like this game at high levels is in dominion .. duels are legit boring as hell the higher you go up and elimination can be fun if you que with 4 buddies ... even when you win duels in high levels it was such a boring way to win that you wished you didn't waste your time as most of my duels take fkn ages to complete with the defensive meta and there is no ranked mode so that win didn't even matter ...
and the fact that 2v2 vs bots is the fastest way to level any character in this game means that you don't even play people to level up your toon if you want to do it efficiently ... also the fact that if you're losing you can just altF4 gg out of the game and take no hit in your stats ... that's why so many people disconnect from your game while you're executing them for a win ...
I remember all the smiles and laughing of my friends when we first started playing the game when we were noobs ... we had heaps of fun ... but the better you get and the higher level of people you play just makes the game boring with no substantial reward for even winning your duel
there is also the fact that you can just pay money to get steel to max gear out all your charaters which is pretty much pay to win as getting to rank 3 takes no time at all in 2v2 bot games that take around 1 minute to complete giving you around 250 xp every minute or so ... so combine that with the orders that give you 1500 xp and it takes no time at all to rank 3
With no ranked mode and the ability to fudge your stats via altF4, long duels feel extremley unrewarding and pointless.
Regardless of 1v1 and 2v2, the real problem is presented when 4v4 and equip comes in to acount, 2-3 parries enrage and thats it. With 100+ gear it just seems to become a rage war and deffensive playstyle is then just the way to go. In my opinion, the ragemodifier on most equip needs to eb nerfed or deleted entirely, so we can have swordfights and not this ****.
For Honor is modeling itself after fighting games so I have no idea why this overly defensive meta is surprising to anyone. This problem has been solved already. Turtling tactics have always get beaten by throws. Throws are the Paper that beats the Rock of blocking. Guard Break Cancels shouldn't even be a thing IMO or they should ONLY exist if two players are guard breaking at the same time.
This was so obvious to me ever since I first played the game in the first beta. Blocking beats attacking. Oh and you can parry and deflect for damage too. Then the next beta comes out and add in a Revenge meter advantage to people that play defensive. And the pitiful guardbreak that is supposed to, you know, break through your opponent when he's guarding, can literally be neutralized by pressing a button.
The fix is really that simple. Take out GBC on reaction. If you anticipate a GB and input it at the same time then you both revert to neutral. If you screw up your read and the other guy attacks, you eat it. It's basic Rock, Paper, Scissors here.

The ideal match is one where both combatants are equal parts aggressive and defensive and answer every parry with a counter parry until somebody over extends and screws up. Disrupting the rhythm is what finally lands a hit.
Mind games are appreciated, but mind games take place at any speed. A staring contest is not a fun speed to have mindgames at.

High level training fights tend to last seconds and usually conclude within a couple of moves. Usually it's either strike-hit or strike-counter-hit.Originally Posted by psyminion Go to original post
From the limited real duel footage with real risk of injury or death we have (mostly from France, duels were a still thing there for a couple of years after cameras were invented), they'd last way longer because both fighters were reluctant to expose themselves and they relied on really safe moves. But once they went for it, it also concluded within a couple of seconds.
The turtle meta is not only obnoxious, but also extremely unrealistic. IRL the attacker has a massive advantage and the only thing that could prolong a fight (aside from armor and shields) is the fact that duelists tended to spend a lot of time looking for a chance to attack the opponent without risking retaliation.
Imagine that you die in 1 hit unless you're wearing a heavy armor, you can't block (parries only) and every GB attempt ends with the fight going to the ground and someone getting the dagger. That'd be more or less realistic For Honor for you.
