I've been playing Shugoki for a bit now (Rep 1 Lv:3) But the entire time I've been playing him I've just felt like nothing in his kit seriously works together other than doing straight cheese tactics that don't work against good players. When I parry I either have to get a light attack or Grab since his heavies are too slow to get off. When I have hyper armor it doesn't matter because most classes can get two light attacks or similar combos in before I get anything other than a Light counter reaction in and his bear hug is just way to dodgeable and heavy punish follows.


So...does the big man need buffs or am I doing stuff wrong? I've played lawbringer to rep 4 with no problem and Nobushi to rep 3 with no problem learning either of them well and learning to stop most of my matches. And those are labeled Hard champs(Then again so is orochi...) But with this guy I feel like I'm putting effort into 0 real results. Would love some advice.

His playstyle is different from other heroes. Don't expect to do combos on him. His main deal is trading, and with that you got to use the head butt a lot. His feint game is strong too if you know his moves well. Also, his out-of-lock game is a big part of his kit, and you need to utilize that for him to shine. A shugoki sprinting towards somebody is scary because he has lots of things he can do to you, and that's where the mind-games come in. Embrace is risky and should be utilized only when guaranteed or if you are anticipating an offensive from your target while your armor is up.

Against fast, aggressive opponents, there's almost nothing you can do without being able to parry consistently. If they're decent at dodging, the only thing you have that will connect with any kind of reliability is guard break.

I would also stress that you have to play reactively and not proactively most of the time with this hero. Only play aggressive when you have armor up, higher stamina than target and when you are trying to close the gap between your dinner and the wall.
