What's the point of starred gear?

I'm just curious cause i was trying to think of what made them special and can't think of anything. They don't have any increased stat adjustments, they aren't any more unique than any other set of purple gear, and as far as visuals go they don't seem any more outstanding than other purple gear (some of them actually look awful, like the Warden's). So what is the actual point of the star on gear? All the gear names are specific to your class choice anyway so every set is unique to them really...

It's all cosmetic. They are meant to be rare prestigious gear that has a lot more detail work then your average heroic weapon. Most if not all have gold or some other type of "bling" that sets it apart....

In the end, it's eye candy. If you do not like the looks of them it's your preference. I personally really like all of them.

But there are heroic and even rare pieces that have more detail in them than a lot of the starred gear, so unless we have times-to-create for each piece, they really are no different from any other piece of heroic gear .. there's lots of pieces that have "bling" to them, is not just the starred gear that has gold
