Least Favorite Ghost Recon Game: Future Soldier
I loved GRAW for its Mil Sim type of slow game-play(especially terrorist hunt co-op). When GRWL was announced I was excited to see another GR game coming out and now as an Open World game. I was hoping for a GRAW like experience and having spent time over the weekend playing Wildlands in Single Player and Co-Op I must say Co-Op is where it shines but still needs to be improved. That said here are my concerns and things that need to be added/changed ASAP.
- AI Customization: This is a tremendous immersion killer for those that are predominately single player gamers. Not having the ability to customize your squad in a 2017
AAA title is mind jarring. I would like to create my team from the ground up (gender, race etc) but at this point I would be happy with changing clothing and weapons.- Vehicle Control: This is geared more towards the Helicopters in the game. With so many games that already do flying so well how this is an issue in Wildlands is concerning. Old games like Mercenaries (360/PS3) did flying well as well as many other games that are more current. It pointless to have a heli with weapons if you can't use them with any accuracy. Granted this game is not meant to be a game where you come in guns blazing from a heli but make the controls manageable.
- Starting Weapons: The Ghost Recon Unit is considered the most elite military unit in the U.S. yet the unit starts off with a rifle with no optics? We should be able to select from a variety of weapons to start the game and not have to 'unlock' what should be standard gear. I understand the logic of unlocking gear but we could have some starting standard issue gear that can be upgrade through game progression.
- AI Intelligence: I was disappointed at the lack of intelligence in the world from my AI squad mates, the enemy, and the civilians. I'll start with my squad mates, they seem to not notice the enemy even if they are on top of them, the shot sync many times doesn't require them to be 'in line of sight' they always find a magical way of getting the shot 99% of the time. Now the Enemy, they don't utilize cover when engaged and just seem to charge you when they're alerted (GRAW seemed to do this better). Civilians, gunfire is ringing out and they just cower down? I would expect them to be running as far away from the combat instead of just going a short distance and crouching down. More realism is needed in all levels to make the world more believable.
- Squad Control: This relates to the above issue with the lack of intelligence but issuing commands is very basic (Hold, Open Fire, Go To, Regroup). Being a mil Sim fan I would like to have more control over my squad mates (single player). Individual Commands would be ideal, Having a sniper provide over watch, ordering another to circle around right in stealth mode to get into certain position etc. Rainbow Six Vegas did this well, being able to setup your squad to breach a building (some missions require getting access to a building) which require you to use a grenade or c4 which puts the enemy on alert completely destroying the element of surprise.
Now a few things I would like to see in the future (the next GR Game)
- Tactical Insertion: Being able to decide if you are going to drive/ride your way to an objective. I would like to plan how I will approach a mission, will I have a helicopter insertion close to the objective? Will I parachute from a plane and insert via a jump? As an Elite Military Unit this would be a cool add-on plus it would remove the need to have so many different 'camps' that you fast travel to. You could have a true base of operation to manage your operations. Tactical Insertion means I'm not controlling the Heli or Plane (stealing/obtaining them) but having the AI control the insertion.
- Mission Planning: Based off of intel you can plan out your mission from insertion (foot, helicopter, Halo Jump, etc). You can give specific orders to your squad before the mission starts based off of intel gathered (will the sniper have an over watch spot or do we not utilize a sniper for this mission). Being able to set camo types and weapon loadouts accordingly to the mission.
- Limiting Resources: Limiting the use of a drone, having ammo based off of the chest rig you decide to use (more ammo the heavier you become which reduces stamina and speed). Not being able to swap weapons/camo in the middle of a mission whenever you want.
- Custom Gameplay Filters: Being able to completely customize what I see or can use in the game is something many GRAW gamers loved about GRAW. I can choose to not have the ability to use drones in my game if I decide etc. Removing the mini map, only being able to utilize the map when at the base of operations etc.
- Intel/HVT Recovery: I would like to see a HVT (high value target) be recovered by loading them into a helicopter or vehicle instead of just knocking them out. Having items that you tag be recovered my the Rebels or Helicopter would be a nice touch.
I hope this helps, of course this is my opinion and it may differ from person to person. Others may have better ideas that could make the game more immersive/better so I'm looking forward to all opinions that can make GR a better game today and in the future.
