The problem is the free GB after parry and once you get to an even higher level you don't even bother with parries but just do safe attacks that cannot be punished.

I'd like to see the core being fixed and be relevant at higher levels. GB could be a reactionary after a dodge or a regular block.

If parries had a better role as a defensive mechanic and not only for unblockables and to do damage - it would be better.

The other problem is the safe 50/50 attacks.

The purpose of GB should be to punish people who play too defensive.

In general they need to open up the gameplay a lot. Currently it is just too much of cookie cutter mixups.

All damage Comming from defence must go away. Then people have to initiate attacks and potentially open themselves up. Strengthen feints so combined with a Dual state block (half and full), landing heavy attacks will be easier.

When you play the game as optimal as you can, it is really bad.

You mad, bruh, just saying. Good luck in stopping "taking heavy or fast damage" that way, be my guest.

yeah, but what about heroes like the lawbringer, who rely on counter-attacking?

Instead of looking for snippets to have an argument with trying reading the post in full. I was talking about the state in which it is and the style of what it "appears" to have been made for. And I'm not mad. Unlike you I'm not a narcissist that feels as though people having a valid point against mine is a threat. That's why idc if they change it or not. I put my 2 cents in because I like to give people alternative views on some of the more touchy subjects. And yes guard breaking in that style that's what GB was for. Why throw someone away from you to attack them.

50/50 attacks are attacks where your opponent has to guess what to do in response to the mixup. Some characters even have three options making it even more random. When they are safe and not punishable at the same time it's a bit issue. I know there is some degree of mind game, but when the attacks are safe it does not matter.

All counterattacking could work as long as you were allowed to respond to it. Then it would really just be an instant change of initiative from defence, which is fine. With a good feint system it would open up the game, so there would be no safe damage.

It would work best with a redesign of defence in general and especially block. Not big changes really, but it could have a great impact.

If you do optimal play, the game is dull and shallow because the core isn't really working well.

Cuz if they are run out of stamina this is a guaranteed knockdown and guaranteed heavy attack after that. You can also attack somebody using GB and throw him out of the ledge. Just another proof that GB is attacking tool and it has nothing to do with defense (counter GB does). GB clearly loses to attacks so it doesn't save you from being hit. Thus, by making COUNTER GB easier to execute, they actually hurt the game making it even more defensive.

Actually no it's not proof that it's an attack. It's further proof that it's used as an attack. (see I can hit you right back with semantics) And you are under the impression that I said it is a defensive move in game. When I clearly stated that in it's current state " It's not a move being used during an attack to throw them off, it is a move to try to knock over". but "If you think that that would work against a defensive stand in real combat you'll most likely be proven wrong, people would see it coming and brace themselves." I understand that you're reading comprehension level is that of a 5th grader but I did make it as plain as I could. Like I said you read one part to try to make an argument. And no in the current state it wouldn't work defensively but given the fact that yes when an attacking enemy loses stamina and you GB him down that's call defense turning into offense that's how fights go(counter attack). But for you to call that strictly attack is like saying parry is as well. When you GB and throw from a defending stance to get them away for a sec it's called defense. But when you use GB and throw while they are being defensive, it stops being a defensive move. And again "If you think that that would work against a defensive stance in real combat you'll most likely be proven wrong, people would see it coming and brace themselves." And to clarify, yes I know this isn't real combat but isn't that what we hope games to feel like?

    Guard Break

    Used to break guard

    The guard is defending

    Gb is used against defence

After a GB you can do a free offensive move

GB is purely an offensive move unless you consider all attacks defensive in the sense that if you kill your opponent, he can't attack you.

The only reason why the LB has to rely on GB, is because his parries are unrewarding, even though his entire concept is parrying. A GB after parry is the only way he can get decet damage as a counter-attacker.

We have a theory fighter here. Yes, it works against "defensive stance" although I don't fully get it what do you mean but let's accept that you mean people who are turtling and stay in blind defense. You can faint, you can intentionally wiff a hit or two, or even hit into GB like Valkyrie's zone attack into GB; or you can mix it up with some character specific disabling moves; or you can GB into GB into GB where they can just stop expecting it, thinking that you are not going to go for several GB-s in a row or just eventually miss the timing at some point etc. So, yeah, you can open them up and GB them - Shocker! But now when GB is *** easy to counter I don't even know if most people will bother to try these or will just sit waiting for the parry. Now I hope that you get it. If not, then you are the 5th grader, not me.
