Where to start... honestly there's a few glaringly obvious issues with Wildlands that have become very apparent to me during the beta. So let's start off with the most obvious one, repetition, and let it flow on from there.
Based on what I have seen and experienced so far in the beta is that the game is VERY repetitive. I would hope that this issue is apparent to everyone, especially to the developers. There's honestly nothing overly amazing about the gameplay mainly because all the encounters are the same. In the Division at least you have different factions that use different tactics that, to an extent, mix up the playstyles. It's the same with Destiny: different enemies to provided different gamelay, and it works well with Destiny because it's a Sci-Fi genre.
So what we have is 3 factions: Rebels, Unidad and the Cartel. Unidad being a military faction is understandable that they would have the big guns, but the Cartel have SAM launchers, jammers and other military grade equipment like god damn miniguns and APCs? Am I the only one that thinks this is a bit too much even for the number one Cartel?
And the Rebels... for a force that we are supposedly helping by sending supplies we don't often see them around the map in their own outposts or even any form of HQ. What exactly are we helping the Rebels to achieve exactly? In-game dialogue between your squad even questions if what you are doing there is even the right thing... but that's something to be determined later on I suppose.
I would honestly like it if when you take an outpost from the Cartel or remove them from a town the Rebels take up residence in them, make it feel that what we are doing is making a difference to help reinforce them. Add in random events as you get close where you need to help defend the outpost/town from the Cartel who try to mount an assault to reclaim it. It gives a sense of doing something right, even more so if you introduce rewards.
Going around finding weapons and attachments on the map is fine and all, but it lacks a sense of accomplishment. I can't help but feel that some weapons, attachments, new clothing and even skill points could be given as rewards for taking out outposts and towns.
Things brings me to end game content. The Division didn't have end game content on release, which was ****, but it later got raid like content, not to mention the missions were similar to "dungeons". Wildlands doesn't have anything close to that. Boss fights are too easy and there's no real variety between the two that we completed in the beta. Honestly there's a lot they could do here. Whether it's a joint op with another 4 man squad to assault a Unidad base or Cartel strong hold, or a stealth survival mode where you are surrounded by enemy patrols and you need to sneak solo out or meet up with allies and steal supplies from the patrol until you get to the extraction zone. I really hope the Devs take this to heart because there's a lot of potential for end game content to just ignore it.
Ok let's take a bit of a break there and take a more sudden change of topic... vehicles. EVERYONE that has flown a chopper should have just collectively groaned just now, if you didn't then I got nothing. But choppers, let's face it, they don't have great controls. Honestly if they changed the controls to be similar to GTA 5 I would be extremely happy with it. That's all that really needs to be changed.
Actually, on the topic of vehicles: driving. I mean, you try to swerve around 2 cars and suddenly you're fishtailing... in a 37ton, 8wheel APC! I'm sorry... what? I like to drift a car down a mountain as much as the next person but come on, there's got to be a limit somewhere right?
Wrong, the party doesn't stop when you go offroad... but your suspension does. No matter how much the vehicle is built as an "offroad" vehicle you will feel every pebble when off road. Fair enough if you're hitting large rocks but small mounds actually **** up your truck properly quick.
And the lack of two-seater motorbikes, or even quads in general is depressing as all hell. Oh and something else that I find depressing is the lack of our own personal vehicles.
We have custom appearance and weapons but we can't steal, upgrade and customise a Ute/truck/chopper for the squad to drive/ fly around in? Missed opportunity there if I do say so myself.
Now, what else was there... oh right, the cover system. It feels a bit fiddly. A lot of the time I'm crouched behind a wall or beside a corner but it doesnt recognise that I'm "in cover". I would have preferred the cover system from the Division to be brought across.
The current weapons and customization we have in game I feel is fine. More weapons is always a goo thing but not needed straight away so that can be left to DLC. You can see a list of weapons that could be added HERE
Finally is how the weapon stats are displayed. I don't know about others but I like my stats to be numerical... something that I can understand:
Damage - How much damage a bullet will do to the; chest, torso, limbs when in effective range
Range - meters/feet of effective range and % of damage drop off
RPM - number of rounds can be put down range per min
Noise Reduction - How many meters/feet away an enemy has to be to hear the shots
Handling - How many seconds it takes to aim and reload
Accuracy - Shown as a bullet spread on a target
I could go into far more depth on what could be changed or added... but I think a post by FerroMortem sums it all up nicely so I shall link his post HERE
TLDR;
- Currently too repetitive
- Cartel equipment seems out of place
- No sense of achievement
- No sign of end game content
- Lack of rewards
- Vehicle controls/handling/customization
- Cover System
- Additional weapons
- Display of weapon stats
Final Verdict:
There's nothing so bad that it would be game breaking, but there doesn't appear to be a hook that would keep me playing after I have completed all the content. Now, they say there's hours of content in the beta... but most of that is just traveling. If you cut out all that and just included the time where you are actually completing main missions, side missions and collecting it's actually going to be a very quick game in my opinion.
I honestly feel that they should delay the game again to try to make sure that there's an element to the game that makes you feel a sense of achievement for the effort your put in the game and rewards you for it without feeling too repetitive
glad to see that absolutely nothing was changed from the early access demo... what? it wasn't a demo? it was a beta you say? How the hell are you meant to fix issues found in a beta in only 1 week before the final release?
But seriously, someone somewhere had to have noticed all the issues wrong with the game long before it went into "open beta"... right? Apparently not and despite being told about it by a very large number of people, they still decided to release the game in its honestly half assed form.
I would have gladly waited another year for release with multiple beta iterations for the developers to actually be able to have a good game released. Instead we have a game where every province is the ****ing same except for the terrain. buggy AI that don't know what they are doing half the time despite the developers claiming the AI are smart (>_>) and bland voice acting where I would rather go back and listen to ****lebot from Destiny again. I'm sorry but Destiny and even Division are less repetitive then this with more varied enemies... but Wildlands is neither of those games... it's FarCry on a mu ch larger scale but far worse.
I've completed 3 provinces and honestly I don't feel like I've accomplished anything nor do I feel rewarded... At least in FarCry when you take an outpost allies occupy it. If I clear an outpost I want allies to take over the SAM site to shoot down enemy aircraft, not the cartel come back in 5min with more expensive military equipment they should have no access to.
and then as if just to further take from the game it has ****ing microtransactions... in a single player/co-op game? Are you serious right now? **** that **** off instantly! What the actual **** were they thinking by letting you just buy all the guns and attachments? Fair enough it it was just some outfits... but the guns and attachments that you should be going out searching for? Even then, guns and attachments should be rewards for missions, not something you can talk to one guy or look at a piece of paper to instantly know the locations of everything in the province, where's the fun in that?
It's not a AAA title to me. It's so repetitive that you could reduce the map to one province, alter the "story" and suddenly it would make for an amazing indie game.
And finally the season pass, those 2 expansions better be nearly 36% the size of the game we currently have EACH because they're charging $72 aud for the season pass and the base game costs $100 aud. They said there's going to be "free updates" but that should be a given, last time I checked no one is going to pay to have the game updated and patched to fix bugs, and "seasonal events" basically means more microtransactions for Ubisoft to take your money via... They honestly better deliver some free DLC to enjoy and work to make the game less repetitive.
unfortunately this seems to be the case once again. A game with so much potential gone to **** under the Ubisoft influenceOriginally Posted by TheThylacine Go to original post
Playing single player and having fun so far.
Haven't stepped into multiplayer co-op because I'm sure it's going to ruin my experience just like during the Beta.
Furthermore, I'm an explorer type. I walk around to see things. I enjoy the map and drive around. I love customising guns and clothes. I try stuff out and see the result. That said, this game is well-fit for me.
I don't like the fact that they lock items for huge amount of money since day 1.
Yer i feel that the game will be better for those explorer type players. I myself love a good amount of character and gun customization so I'm getting a good fix of that in Wildlands.Originally Posted by Kane_sg Go to original post
I wish they didn't reveal EVERY weapon, attachment or supply raid in a province when gathering intel, or at least just gave you a general location so you still need to put in the effort to look for it.
As for buying items with real money... hate it as well, keep it out of single player/co-op games
