Is it my imagination, or do both of these zone attacks flicker an indicator in a different direction before the actual attack comes? For PK it seems to be coming from the left, then it hits from the right. Orochi flickers top (where you would also expect a hard-hitting light to land), then hits from the right.
Is this a light-cancel feint I'm missing, or is this how the zone works? Given they are already very quick attacks, *should* a very quick attack like this feint a different direction for the player? And if you block either's zone, is it a free punish like Warden's?
Just curious if I'm missing something here.
Thank you for the confirmation. I'm curious what people think about that. Does it make an already fast ability too easy to land? With practice, is it still easy to flick the block back in the appropriate direction?
If only Level 3 bots ever used zone attack, I'd hop in and practice. But the level 3 Orochi bot is garbage, too many side lights, heavies, and storm rushes.
If anyone knows about a "block practice" community, I'd be happy to join. I'd be more than happy to be Warden practice for anyone who wants it.
On most of the classes zone attacks are pretty good in 1v1 combat. The problem is that while on some classes it is pretty bad (Lawbringer for example), on other classes it is extremely good (Warden, Orochi, Warlord, Pk). This creates unbalance and while devs try to 'nerf' those by making thir stamina cost high, it is not enough.
Description of problems:
- Warden - very high speed and range, makes extremely hard to avoid a hit since his/her top light is just as fast; also is an amazing punish tool.
- Orochi - very high speed and shifting direction, provides while providing an extra offensive window for beginners, it makes short distance fights with skilled Orochis very dangerous.
- Warlord - faster than his light attacks and can move warlord on a pretty long distance forward. Not as problematic as previous 2 but still a very good punishing and harassing ability.
- Peacekeeper - just very fast and deals moderate dmg, should not even be called as 'zone attack' since it's obviously effective in a short range.
