    Blocking/parrying the fastest attacks

It seems to me I'm hitting a massive wall when it comes to getting better at this game. I constantly get hit by the really fast attacks without being able to react.

Like for example standing next to an orochi (just an example, not asking for a nerf, calm down) and guarding my right side, I know, I am literally 100% sure he is going to attack from the top, so I'm standing there focusing my entire mental capacity anticipating that attack from the top. And he does attack from the top. But the attack is so fast that he's already hit me by the time i realize he's even started the attack. Like, the hit points are already gone by the time i see the animation and the red marker. Forget parrying, I can't even move the damn guard in time just to get a regular block. And at the same time, I keep meeting players who have no trouble parrying my fastest attacks, like the warden overhead light or zone attack, so clearly it's possible to do.

So yeah, dunno if my connection is laggy and it's an ubisoft p2p issue, or if I'm just genetically inferior to the superhuman species you have to be a member of to be good at this game. Does anyone else have similar experiences? Is there a way to "git gud"? Is there a secret technique?

You have to practice. It's just one attack. You have the right idea - keep your guard to the right to block the 12f attack, try to match the overhead 15f light.
If you're worried about your execution, you could try a simple trick: as soon as he moves (no indicator), flick your guard top and then focus on teching the guardbreak. Flicking your guard top won't mess with your GB attempt and if he does go for the GB instead of the overhead teching it should be as easy as in the tutorial.

Oh, and don't just stand there waiting for his move. The tension is going to kill you. Identify the moments that make you vulnerable to this attack, don't try to focus on this stuff all the time. Mind your spacing, give him a chance to whiff - don't be a static target.

I'm pretty sure connection does a big difference. Against IA i parry a ton more than against players (fast attacks) often against player can't even change guard, as you say.

(****ing **** adsl not less than 70 ping to google even...)

Tip for fast parry: if you quickly react to an attack you can barely block you can also parry it. Just press the parry button at the same time you change your direction and if your block direction change was fast enough and the parry was in the right time frame you will parry it. No need to put block first to the right direction. It is basically one reaction "he attacks left, I block/parry there".
When you get used to it parrying light attacks is even easier than parrying heavy attacks.

Well, of course only if you can change the block direction fast enough (I feel your pain).

As a Peacekeeper whose light attacks get parried and who has accidentally parried other PK light attacks I can back up what the guy above me is saying.

It's basically a single action. You move your guard to the direction of the attack and click R2 at the same time or just after. Quick attacks are almost easier to parry because you can click R2 pretty much as soon as you see it.

There are some attacks where you will need to be in that guard prior to the attack in order to block it. A good example I find is Lawbringer's top light. That **** is very quick and is near impossible to block. This is why some guides that have matchups will tell you to default in some stances. However, the ability to block light attacks are affected by your class. Some seem to have faster guard switches than others. For example, Warlord's guard switch is much faster than Raider's.
