From what I've read, you won't lose the counter if you hit the button too early.

One big thing is if you GB at the same time Now, it's a lottery who gets it. But after the patch youre gonna knock each other back.

I wish it was a lottery. It's actually the one with the fastest animations. It's very noticeable on the Valkyrie, who brings her shield up to grab with - the split seconds it takes to do that means you lose the GB far more often than you get it.

There's no way you could know they hit on the exact same frame. It's not a lottery at all. One person got in before the other.

It's difficult to answer because the patch only say that GB are going back to their beta state and I don't think that a lot of people analysed how BG worked in the beta.
For what I recall if both player grabbed each other at the same time it resulted into a CGB (1OO% sure, it happened to me a few times to me when I played the beta).

I may be completely wrong but for what I understand, the current problem with the GB right now is that, if both player GB each other seemingly at the same time, the first player who pressed the button has priority and resolves the move. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if you can CGB afterward but since you pressed the GB button a split second AFTER your opponent the first time, pressing it a second time during the counter window would be considered mashing by the game and will therefore fail. Again, this is what I understood of the problem but maybe it doesn't work like that.

The point is, Ubi decided it would be better to bring the GB system to its previous state which, again, I think, will result in moving the window on the early frame rather than having to wait for the white shield to appear on your character. If so, I indeed think it's better, not only because it will fix the "GBing at the same time" issue but also because it would make GB more unpredictable (since you have to react earlier, assumably when the crushed shield sign appears on your opponent).

Basically right now, you cannot counter a guard break if you are currently in the "guard break attempt" animation. So if you guard breaks a split second after your enemy decided to you are stuck in the animation while their gb connects first, and you have no chance to counter gb because you are still in the animation for "gaurd break attempt" even though you can't see it and are being hit by their guard break.

with the patch, you won't be stuck in "guard break attempt animation" if you get hit by a guard break, you will be able to hit the gb button again and counter the gb, provided you time it properly.

Whats not changing is the free guard break during a recovery animation, like after a parry.

If that were true, it would allow successful mashing of counters.

To me, it just sounds like they extending the counter window to cover startup frames and not just a period after active - so if two people GB at near the same time, it will counter.
