While most people are jumping into the FarCry or The Division comparison, here i am thinking this game is more like Mafia 3 with teammates. even more than it is like MGSV:TPP.
The game loop and core concepts are very much alike - You need to take out the main boss by killing his henchmen. A henchman is in charge of a region. to take him out you complete a number of missions that repeat themselves, mostly, between region to region. you can complete a mission by using stealth, close quarters combat or long range sniping. you sneak around in 3rd person, melee, shoot and boom stuff. there is very little story to connect the whole thing. you barely know anything about the henchmen you kill before you put one in their head. Vehicles are abundant but usually not a huge part of the missions. all missions are the same - objective is here. go do it however you see fit.
the game will have a lot of content and many gamers will criticize it for being very repetitive. it will likely be received as mediocre.
To me these two games sound a lot alike.
And...
...i personally dont mind :P
i am one of the really strange people who liked mafia 3. dont get me wrong - i'd give this game a 7.0, probably what i would give GR:W, but just because a game is mediocre doesnt mean i dont think its fun for ME.
Granted - Mafia 3 had great characters, wonderful acting and writing but the story itself, the story-arc, was so bland and boring - get a revenge on sal marcano. kill a goon. kill another. and another. in the end - you take revenge on sal marcano. its as shallow and as predictable as stories go. it was no mafia 1. and GRW will have the same shallow story, but without the great characters, personality and cutscenes to convey the mood. but it will have more tactical gameplay and other nice features of its own.
I am not the kind of guy who claims that games that give you full freedom to do missions in any way i want as repetitive. not every game can hide its repetitive nature with fantastic story like The Witcher 3, but make no mistakes - TW3 is as repetitive as they come, gameplay wise.
So, do you agree GR:W is a lot like Mafia 3? If you do - do you mind that it is?
