The game is ruined by the stat improvement... It's not a game about fighting skills anymore, it's about getting the better gear. Matchmaking doesn't help by almost always creating a team of grey stuff against a team with bleu and purple. So even if you're good you don't have any chance because the other dude deals way more damage and will get revenge every 20sec.
I see 2 type of solutions :
1. Cancelling the stat improvement : the gear become cosmetic only and casual players have a chance against hardcore players, farmers and paytowinners.
2. Improve the matchmaking : simply evenly distribute high stuffed people in both teams would be a start. I know you only get to chose your fighter after matchmaking but players with purple stuffed fighter almost only use that one so the matchmaking should look in the stuff unlocked and balance the team according to that. Or some Casual and Ranked system, in casual you can't equip special gear but you still can find some (according to your level) and you can only equip that gear and mod your stats to fight in Ranked...
I don't want to piss off hardcore players, I just want the game to be fun for everybody, it's a great game with a lot of potential but there are some big problems that ruin the game for casual gamers...

1) No. A casual should never has a shot vs an hardcore player. Or else what would be the point in investing time in this game? But casual players shouldn't meet hardcore players on a regular basis. Farmers..? You can't farm in that game. I'm sorry but there is no mob to camp or to slay... Pay2winners are a legend spread by people frustrating they lose. They don't exist in that game because you can't pay to win. period.
2) Problem is the game doesn't know in advance what character you gonna play. So it relies on your account reknown to find a match. Plus the game conciders that if you're prestige 2 you can fight equaly a prestige 3 one... Which is false. A prestige 0 can fight a prestige 2 one with few to no penalty but prestige 3 gives you access to 2 stats boost gear whiich is an entire new world. But ii mainly agree on that point.,
