Because before you've played a few different classes, you look over what's available and see that this is the class that uses a katana.
You play a bit and find that you're speedy and seem to be able to take people out fairly easily.
Once you realise that perhaps the character's move set is not the best or most interesting, you already have a prestige level or two and switching to another character seems like a pain.
I think that could be the case for some. I started with Orochi simply because it uses a katana, but switched over to Kensei as it felt like it had more options and control t play tactically as opposed to hit and run and annoying my opponent to death before they rage quit.
When I was first picking a character after deciding I wanted to play Samurai to start, the Kensei seemed like the 'standard' class as it's unlocked to begin with, but on the flip side it using that big nodachi seemed like he might be a bit slow and use a less 'conventional' fighting style. The Shugoki uses a club - wanted to cut people with a sword. Nobushi seemed like more of a specialist class and again did not use a classic sword.
Of course now that I've played the game a bit more and tried out some different classes, I'm much less hung up about which weapon I am using and more concerned with what toolkit a class brings to the table.

I had the same situation with the wardenI love knights, and in terms of looks, the warden was the perfect hero for me. After a while and rep 1 i felt that
his movement set was just not fitting my playstyle. He is awesome but not for me, so i switched over to nobushi even if it was a pain. But im glad i did that change^^
But your explanation is pretty good on the Orochi topic (Y)
He's actually not only a noob killer and his side step mix up can get even the best players if he managed to get in. The Orochi is simply the best character in the game right now, that's why a lot of people plays him. I have no problem with his power but I admit it's kinda boring to fight that class over and over again in every team based matches.
This is why I love duels so much, I feel like there is more variety in the characters that are played. Not later than today I played 5 duels, only 1 Orochi. The other was a Warden, a Berserker, a Raider and even a Shoguki.
I guess it's a matter of taste but for some reason, I feel like the Orochi is the less alluring character of the Samurai clan. He's too boring and cliche (the ninja dude using a katana....not really the first time you see that in a video game is it?). Imo the Nobushi is far cooler and more unic for example.
Even the Kensei seem more attractive to me, he's a Samurai, so from this perspective, nothing crazy I'm okay with that but I like the Nodachi as a weapon and he has a hell of a style.
That being said, I think For honor, is quiet well balanced overall. Of course the Orochi is very commonly played and some characters are stronger than some others but I played some fighting game that was FAR more unbalanced than that in the past (who said SF third strike?) where only a couple of characters where dominating the game to the point where you might even forget that the other existed...

Funny thing is people recognize the Orochi as ninja when really he is the REAL archetype of a samurai (NOT the kensai). If you think about it
wich samurai movie character looks like the kensai? (except the mask) The Orochi reminds me heavily on the "General" of the movie "The last Samurai"![]()
The reason I main Orochi (reputation 12) is because the Orochi is based on your opponents moves, you have to wait for your opponent to attack you which sucks against turtle characters like warlord and conq as they will just sit there for days. Another reason I main Orochi is that properly geared he is a 1v4 champion and I have no problem taking on whole teams despite the reddit memes of "we like to run away". Orochi is one of the squishy characters meaning that if we see a fight that we KNOW we will not win such as near a ledge or against two Burger Flipping lawbringers or Sumo Sams, we will simply take the fight elsewhere cause our class shines in 1v1 duels. The orochi has a few useless moves that no one really uses such as the Heavy Deflect Attack as it opens you for a easy guard break or warden spam / Peacekeeper light spam. My orochi has two armor sets (both 108) and I focus on Sprint speed for team game modes such as dominion or i have a execution build that gives be 100% HP on sucessful execution or 50% HP on a light attack kill (this is also boosted by our first tier ability which increases the healing rate for hero kills) for my second ability I always use Kuni as it will interupt players and another useful side effect is to throw one at a player camping near a ledge waiting to get a free ledge kill as if you throw it in a direction were the body is in front of the ledge it will push them off. For a third ability always go for the bleeding sword as it increases your damage by an additional 50% (which is evem more awesome with a full attack blade for roughly 65%-70%) and will apply 5s of bleed per light hit and 15s per heavy hit stacking each time. for final abilities its up to you but i personally use arrow storm as its a good way to save oponents or defend objectives really far away.
For those who want pics or gtfo I present to you the following images:
My Gear Setup
GIF of me 1v4ing a team and winning with revenge mode
Also another reason is because properly equipped Orochi reminds me of The greatest Orochi of all Oroku Saki (The Shredder)

I can rest easy with the hope that all Orochi players are this level of cringe. Whenever I catch a player using the rubberband xp leechOriginally Posted by MinuanoMurasama Go to original post
