One of the very first global balance changes that NEEDS to be done is to normalize the rate that characters change guard positions. Until then no real balancing can occur since many characters are being torpedoed at the waterline before the match even starts by essentially forcing artificial input lag on the user for the crime of picking the wrong character.

LB doesn't have any combos. Barring time for a singular strike off a parry, guardbreak, or wall stun, all of LB's actions are too slow to confirm into other actions.Originally Posted by Slaytham Go to original post
The closest thing he has to an actual combo is trying to chain GB>side heavy>shove. However that only works on low tier players who are incapable of counter guardbreaking. Once this basic skill is learned by the adversary then the "combo" stops at GB>side heavy (something pretty much the entire cast of characters is capable of doing). It's a good option for defeating low-skill assassin players who keep panicking and attempting to dodge away from the GB attempt (which merely forfeits their ability to tech the guardbreak), but that's about it. Even level 2 bots maange to stop that cold in its tracks more often than not.
First of all, Lawbringer needs a faster guard stance switch. Making a counterattacker that can't even block as fast as everyone is just broken.
Secondly, Lb is a heavy/vanguard hybrid. But instead of getting some the good bits of both he got all the bad things. Vanguards have a combination of pretty long range, decently fast attacks and hard hits or decent combos. Not all of these, but mostly at least one or some combination of these. Meanwhile heavies get superior defense by way of full guards, invulnerability, and the ability to punish attackers for heavy damage. Again, not all, but some. This counts the other two hybrids as well.
Basically, of all of these possible traits, Lawbringer has nothing. He's a gimped hybrid with none of the good of either class. Simply giving one of these traits to push him into either direction would work. Longer range through pokes, or faster attacks, combos that follow through, harder initial hits, invulnerability, better countering. Seriously, pick one and he would be fixed. Right now though he's screwed due to not really being either of his two classes.
He isn't wrong. I've seen the gifs comparing stance change speeds, and there are 3-4 heroes that change about 3-4x slower than all the rest. Whereas most can flip back and forth on a dime, it's I believe Lawbringer, Shugoki, Raider, and maybe that's it, who actually need time.Originally Posted by FRAKTICA Go to original post
So if a PK feints a heavy left then lights right, I don't think LB can shift guard to the left then back right in time to block.
Maybe they did this for animation purposes, but it's a legitimate balance concern if the UI is accurately reporting block direction and not lagging behind to accommodate the animation, even if it will functionally still switch in time.
I don't see any reason why something as mechanically fundamental as changing your block direction should vary based on hero. All it does is put certain heroes at a core mechanical disadvantage, which is silly in a competitive game.
It would be like if Terran had to click or press a hotkey 2 or even 3 times for it to go through in Starcraft 2. Why handicap something at a mechanical level like that?
Please don't say "because they have big weapons". I get enough class fantasy argumentation from MMOs.
A counterattacker should not have the worst capabilities of counterattacking. There must be something wrong with you if you don't recognise this as inherently broken.Originally Posted by FRAKTICA Go to original post
It´s extremely easy to counter. I play both LB and Warlord. If LB wouldn´t look so damn good in that armor, I would pick Warlord any day of the year.Originally Posted by STGxDante Go to original post
If they start spamming push+GB, then I'll just expect the GB and tech it, or I'll start actually focusing on side-stepping the push. If they start incorporation the toss, then I'll just hold a direction after getting pushed, wait for the animation, and sidestep it. If they do GB instead, you can tech it.
It just takes a bit to train your mind to recognize the situation and react accordingly. If you keep getting caught by it it can be frustrating, sure. But that's on you.
The only issue I have with LB is that toss spam garbage that has no window to escape. It's do-nothing spam in 1v1, but it's the least fun mechanic in 4v4, maybe alongside a Revenge'd Valk's perma-CC with the shield charge.
The whole character just doesn't make any sense! What is exactly the point of the parry --> light attack if it leads to nothing at all? Whenever an orochi parries he gets 2 free hits with top light attack or for example the warden who can start his ridicolously OP vortex on you. It is stated 'excelent counter-attacker' although the only thing the lawbringer can do excelently is sucking pro players junks cuz the character is A HUGE PILE OF CRAP.
