In the history of the Vikings, whenever one of their pillages was pushed back they would burn supplies so that the enemy couldn't seize and use them. This strategy was known as the scorched earth strategy.

With that said...

Please make a Viking class that has like a hatchet or an ax or something in one hard, and a torch in the other. It would fit in with the viking faction so well, it would be a cool mechanic to be able to burn your enemies and have a DOT effect that wasn't just a bleed, and it would just be a freaking awesome character in general. Please oh please Gods of Ubisoft, hear my prayer.

Name him/her something like Pillager or Scorcher

Absolutely love the game btw, just work on those guard break counter balances and keep up the good work!

I think some sort of fire based weapon would be really neat, the burn dot should be stronger than the bleed, but be able to be put out by rolling, similar to games like monster hunter. I think that would add an interesting play-style for the character as well as a well thought out counter play against them.

Yeah that sounds like a neat idea. Could use a dagger in one hand, too. Vikings had some pretty unique daggers. That way more of their weaponry options would be covered instead of just giving another hero an axe.
