Nearly every class in the game can combo a Guard Break with a Strong attack to reliably initiate an execute on a critical-health enemy. It's a handy way to put an end to a turtling enemy and prevents a revive, which is game-deciding in all multiplayer modes. As a basic staple of the game, it's an essential tool everyone can utilize and one I see very often in online play...
...except the Shugoki can't do it.
When Shugoki uses a Strong attack after a Guard Break, it uses Demon Ball instead, which cannot trigger Executes even though all other Strong Attacks can. The only way a Shugoki can Execute is by landing a standard Strong attack in the middle of random combat, a feat that threatens easy punishment via Parrying and is usually not worth the risk of retaliation, due to the Shugoki's slow projected attacks.
Whenever I get my opponent to critical health in Online play, I usually have to settle for the GB + Demon Ball kill because trying to land a random Strong is far too risky for Shoguki to reasonably hit. Without being able to Execute, getting a kill doesn't feel very rewarding since I'm stuck babysitting a corpse until it bleeds out. This is very unfun because I would rather be helping out my team. It would bring Shoguki up to speed if Demon Ball were switched to GB + Light Attack (or any other key combination) so Shoguki can share the standard Execution method with the rest of the cast.
I realize not a lot of people enjoy playing the Shugoki but I hope other Shoguki-mains can sympathize with how disappointing it feels to have any other class perform the Guard Break + Execute combo on you, knowing that Demon Ball's key-binding prevent us from doing the same.
Thanks for reading! Issues aside, I'm having a lot of fun with the game and I look forward to seeing how it grows!
Lets also talk about that massive loss of health for missing that unblockable grab... You lose nearly HALF of your life bar on a miss!! Shugoki is already slow af and the recovery off that attack is non existent. He is not easy to use I know but, with all the disadvantages he already has (aside from his eat 1 hit ability) and with no ability to execute off a demon ball, he becomes much less friendly to use. He has the least amount of attacks and is the slowest of all characters, he's gotta have something more than the extremely hi risk reward back break. He's no longer viable in my book unless you only 1v1 and its not against an assassin. I still feel the games quite unbalanced character wise.
I realize its not a popular opinion but I'm actually fine with the significant health loss on a missed hug. I feel it helps balance the whole "risk-reward" aspect because Demons Embrace is one of the only moves in the game that provides a chunk of healing on-hit, which can turn the tide of a fight. To be, the biggest downside to Demons Embrace is that it foregoes any chance at an Execution because if it kills, it just knocks them out and I'm stuck babysitting a corpse once again. Coupled with the fact that Demon Ball does not Execute either, I feel like the Shugoki's options for Execution are far too limited. The suggestion above about Demon Ball having a custom Execute on critical enemies would be a great fix for this issue too! The Shugoki's sitting emote is exactly how I feel every time I'm forced to knock out an enemy because it's upsetting to sit on corpses for revive-prevention, knowing that my team needs my help elsewhere.Originally Posted by Mr_M3se3ks_ Go to original post
I main the shugoki and I must say I don't have a problem with our executions. Most of the times I don't even use the executions because they take forever on the shugoki and I usually die halfway through. That said, when I do manage to grab a foe and homerun the poor sod out of the park, I usually run after them and use the running heavy attack as a finisher.
Sure, they can be revived but do they really want to move into your personal space, risking a swing from your mighty saltstick? Most of the times when I'm outnumbered I wait for the moment where I can use revenge to knock atleast one guy to the ground so I can club him down with a single hit. That way I have to fight less enemies and I encourage them to come at me, which is so much better than the other way around.
We're no runners, we like to stay in one place so use that and have them come to you.
