We all know there are a host of bugs in the game, and they definitely need addressing, most of them before anything else, as well as many issues regarding class balance and gameplay mechanics that need adjustment. But there are a lot of small things that could benefit greatly from some small changes, or are even completely missing and should be added to the game to improve users' experience. Here we go!
- Matchmaking - I think most players are in agreement when I say that the game seems to love matching players against opponents who are often way out of their league. Part of the problem is the matchmaking process. The second thing changed is Skill, and it goes from Strict to Extended to LOL ANYONE in a matter of seconds. I would rather have it check other regions and languages before widening the skill range. And then I'd rather sit an extra 30 seconds rather than try to get into an imbalance match in 10 seconds.
- Elimination/Skirmish - There is no reason these modes should be on a shared queue with no way to search for a single game mode individually. Not only are they not similar, Skirmish has more in common with Domination than with Elimination. And besides that, the Orders which require Elimination matches are not compatible with Skirmish games. Furthermore, literally every time a game goes to Skirmish, most of the players will quit within second.
- Peer-to-peer Networking - We all know how annoying this is. Not only is it lame when the host quits and everyone has to sit while a new host is designated (often mid-fight, screwing one or both combatants over), with the new host comes a different latency. To a certain extent, you can compensate for latency by adjusting your timing, but when a new host is found, these timings can change, and the rhythm you had established the whole match is now thrown off. The most important reason to me for dedicated servers is consistent latency for all players.
- Lack of Chat - There is a puzzling lack of chat features in this game, and what limited chat there is is horribly flawed and buggy. There needs to be party chart at all times while in-game for players, there needs to be chat for all players in a match, consistently, at all time, and there should definitely be a faction-wide chat in the main menus for players to coordinate their distribution of War Assets.
- War Assets - I like the idea of the factional warfare. Its functionality is just pretty poor at the moment. The territories need to be named. The map needs to be a large, single screen that can be panned and zoomed, with all fronts visible from a single screen (rather then having to back out and click different game modes to access different fronts), and the map updates need to be less wonky. As it stands, I have no idea what's actually changing during the map updates.
- UI - Let's face it: the in-game UI in this game is a mess. There are too many messages popping up everywhere, the minimap is bad, the announcer is frustratingly annoying, the player live/dead status panels that pop up for each team in Dominion and Skirmish are completely unnecessary and only serve to further obscure your view, there is no chat log, old chat messages continually pop up and look like someone is saying the same thing repeatedly.
- Emblems - Emblems are a fun way to express yourself further and create a unique identity for yourself. The idea is good, but the only time other players can actually see your emblem is during load screens--and that's only a single player on the enemy team, and it's still too small. In all other appearances of emblems, they are so small as to be negligible. They should be much larger and displayed for all players during load screens, and should be displayed in large detail next to the portrait of your killer when you bring up their info (this should happen by default, by the way, with spacebar hiding it).
- Voice Chat - This doesn't seem to work at all unless you're using Open Mic, which is extremely annoying. No one likes hearing people breathe, smash keys, or talk to their friend or mom while they're playing. We need push-to-talk functionality asap.
- Quick Chat - The options here are very limited and in most cases don't allow players to convey the information they need. Do you need help defending A? Or attacking it? Or are enemies on their way to A? Who knows! There should be way more options here. And instead of this goofy "Press B while Quick Chat is open to deploy a beacon to..." That's a mess, it's silly. Change it so pressing a Quick Chat message will just say it in general or attach it to your location, or allow us to HOLD it to then aim and release attach it to a relevant location or enemy.
- Unskippable Intros - Come on, it's 2017. Let us skip all intros.
- Consistency in Menus - The menus are generally a mess. The hotkeys are not all the same across all menus. Some menus you can press Escape to back out of, some you can't. You can press Space to select a game mode, press Q/E to go through different tabs and change between Brawl/Duel, but there's no button to change between PvP/AI matches. Clean this stuff up!
These are all little things that pester your players constantly and are really off-putting, before they even get into a match! None of these have anything to do with actual gameplay or class balance, but will help make players' time spent in the game a lot more enjoyable.
