LAWBRINGER - Constructive criticism and Feedback.
I really like the Lawbringer, I've taken him from lvl.1 to Rep.1 lvl.7 - So I'm not someone rage quitting just because I have to apply myself.
I like that way he shouts in Latin when he strikes, I like the armour and the way he fits into the Knights faction. There are no issues with the conceptualisation of this character. The Renaissance style Tudor armour and the idea of a Pole arm is great. I love it!!!!
There are some problems with him, even when I factor in that he is a 'hard' character to master.
COMBO's:
They really are just to slow. Lawbringer combo's do not have a matching power or range to compensate for just how lethargic the Lawbringer can be when put up against other characters.
The chaining and combo's themselves work very nicely indeed and they have no issues in how they are put togther but they are just to slow. Personally I like how the LB uses his Shove and throws to bully an opponent into a corner, and the R1 overhead is very pleasing as well.
I think that he does need speeding up though - as when he does strike with his slow combos the damage is not that great either in comparison to a character like the Shugoki. Yes, He is a Hybrid but he is a slug against other Vanguards like the Knight and the Kensei. His basic R1 swings to the L and R are practically geriatric against everyone else. It also feels like he has no Range at all especially for the Salad toss throw (the overhead) - It's a very gratifying move but it's lack of speed and range are far to limited!
Speeding up his combo's are really going to open this guy up. Even if he does lose some damage in order to ensure that it's not too OP or broken.
DEFENSIVE ABILITIES
The bottom line is that his guard break interruption is to Slow and his Parrying is too slow (only the over head parry really works). Now, parrying with it's resulting stamina drain is something I have practiced to a great extent with the Knight and the Kensei during the Closed and open Beta's - it's something I have honed, and It's a rare occurance with the Lawbringer!!!!! Too rare for a Defensive Hybrid. This makes him pretty hopeless for duels and Brawls. He is very good at defending against multiple opponents (especially in dominion) and this should be kept.
His cooldown after any move is an eternity. I can imagine his suit of armour is heavy but surely a trained Knight will have done his Cardiovascular and strenghth traning. Right now the LB takes too long to recover guard after, say, striking with R1 L and R attacks (the over head seems good though).
OVERALL
Overall I think that the Lawbringer is Epic but needs to go further into the Vanguard or Heavy end of the Hybrid spectrum. Right now he sits in the middle and experiences no real benefit from being a hybrid.
Either speed him up. Or keep him the same but increase his defensive capacity and increase his range and damage output.
It would be a shame to see such a strong concept languish.
The longer and longer I have used him the less I feel he needs anything by way of statistical buffs and should rather suggest that he have a technical option opened up to him.
a.) One suggestion is that the Lawbringer gain access to a free side heavy attack after successfully performing a 'Long Arm' knock down. It's an additional sliver of damage as a reward for landing that difficult to hit move. Of course if you have the stamina for it...
b.) The over head counter strike after a top parry should be changed to something faster, a less damaging thrust attack perhaps, that is either not able to be parried (or at least not as easily, and inflicts the dazed status as normal.
c.) The addition of a short light attack chain to add some fluidity to the Lawbringers initiations so the shove isn't used so consistently.
I'm not suggesting all of them or even several. One would suffice. The Lawbringer can compete though it is more difficult to reliably bring out his full potential without handing the initiative to your opponent.
Yes, points A and C seem pretty fair, but I think that the overhead R2 hit after the Parry should stay - if you hand that to the law Bringer what do you expect! I think that the R1 attacks should be faster (alot faster) - it would make the chain combo's easier to do and spice him up a bit. I'm feeling now that the LB is more of a long term character and would pair well with the ease of the Knight. Faster R1's and and three hit R1 combo would be good.Originally Posted by TheCadian_ Go to original post
The main problem with the lawbringer is that his gameplay doesn't match his look. People see a massive wall of steel and the longest weapon in the game (fact check plz, lol) but he's really all about shove and keeping the enemy out of stamina. You exhaust them and then whittle at way at them with mix-ups and even more shove.
He could use a little love, and he's boring as hell to play imo, but he's not that weak.
Reputation 5 Lawbringer here.
He's good. Could use a bit of a damage buff in my honest opinion rather than a speed boost. His speed is fine for the most part, but he's situational.
Something important to remember is he, along with some other characters, get access to more options upon parrying a light attack rather than a heavy attack.
If you parry a heavy attack, your riposte or a guard break are really your only options.
If you parry a light attack, you have the option of using your overhead unblockable or the sideways thrust (to throw people into walls for extra damage after) without worrying about them parrying it. It's free damage.
Lawbringer is tough to take down because his defenses are already one of the best, despite his block stance change speed being remarkably slower than anyone else. The thing that makes him shine is that he doesn't NEED to parry an attack to stop a combo, he can just shove them to stop it. Basically just stop them from chaining attacks until they make a mistake, throw out an easy light attack, and you parry it and deal nearly half their hp with one unblockable (Using it at the end of your 3 hit combo does 25 damage, while using it after a light parry does 40).
How is LB's defense "one of the best"? His parries are only 5 damage more than Warden's parry into top heavy, he has no dodge confirm, his dash is actually one of the slowest, his guard change is the slowest, he only has a single poke to keep people at bay.Originally Posted by RLTygurr Go to original post
Also, who the hell even combos at high skill level?
I agree with this completely. Lawbringer is objectively one of the weakest classes in all situations but a gank in high level play.Originally Posted by ShinimasS Go to original post
I've posted this on every Lawbringer post I can find because the glaring weaknesses make him completely not viable at high level play.
I'd say to check out this reddit post for all of his drawbacks that make him less viable than other characters. I am Rep 5 on Lawbringer, on Xbox 1, and rep 2 on PC. You can say I've been around the block with this character a few times, and don't play against noobs anymore. This character is a nefarious noob stomper. Noobs who get scared and sit like a deer in headlights when you do an unblockable, and don't know how to counter guard or block the charging attack get DESTROYED by Lawbringer. However, at high level play, all of your attacks are dodged and parried more easily than any other character's. Not to mention, he is a "COUNTERATTACK" Class, and none of his counterattacks after parries will hit except for the light parry riposte. Every single other riposte can be blocked, dodged, or parried, making his reliance on parries almost utterly useless.

I saw a Lvl 5 Lawbringer who battered me yesterday. As soon as I made a mistake he was all over me and did not let go! It was pretty impressive. Maybe that was you? he he he!Originally Posted by RLTygurr Go to original post
At the risk of sounding like an amateur. Is blocking a light attack like blocking a heavy (i.e guard direction with R2 before weapon connection)? I may have done this before without releasing it!
The law Bringer is decent but needs to do more damage - other than that he's a solid character! I find his defensive style a bit uninspiring so I've moved onto the Kensei, lends himself to how I want to play Offensively and methodically.
Parrying a heavy attack is generally much easier than parrying a light attack. Because of this, the enemy (who is the one who gets parried) has a shorter recovery time when their heavy attack gets parried as opposed to a light attack. Basically, it takes them longer to be able to block or dodge if they threw out a light attack and it gets parried.Originally Posted by ThisHermitGuy Go to original post
Because of this, most characters (I'm sure there's one of two where it makes no difference) have a larger variety of attack options that are guaranteed to hit. The lawbringer's overhead unblockable and sideways charge immediately following a parry are extremely easy to dodge or block on a heavy parry, since the opponent is given plenty of time to both see the attack coming and react to it. A light parry, however, has a recovery time that is long enough that these two attacks are guaranteed to hit simply because the opponent is not able to act before it hits them. This does not apply to conquerer or peacekeeper, who have faster recovery times from just about everything. Therefore, it's pointless to ever attempt these moves on these two classes.
