While I can see some people being offended by this post because in this day and age you can't say boo without offending someone, the gist of the message is spot on. I played a Warlord main for both beta's and found myself having a ton of difficulty when the game dropped. My first reaction was "what the hell happened?" the same as a lot of people. I came on here, read a lot of the complaints and in the process stumbled across the strategy guides and the few tutorial videos..... then I practiced. I made sure to learn ALL of my main characters moves, I learned to vary the timing and type of moves, and I started mixing things up a bit more and, for a Warlord, being more patient.

I haven't tried taking on a lvl 3 bot yet, but after reading this that'll be my next progression, but there is truth to this post. If you put the time into learning your character, what makes them work, and equally what weaknesses can be exploited on your opponents, and then practice the mechanics...it'll make a world of difference. I'm not at 90+% win rate yet, but I rarely feel outclassed. I can attribute my losses to a mistake or weakness on my part or just meeting a more skilled and proficient player.

If playing this game in a way that is not frustrating (cannot counter guardbreak for instance) demands hours and hours of work not to be f*cked up in one guardbreak when you play, then this game will have very few players.
Well, the counter guard break is bugged at the moment and is going to be fixed.

Secondly, if you want to be good at this game. like really really good, and win all the time like a professional then you are wrong, this game does become a job, a chore, an inconvenience.
Say what you will about "having no life" but when you want to get good at anything in life, basketball, driving a car, swimming, public speaking you practice it and you put your entire self into achieving your goals.

And so finally you are getting to the underlying point of all this, if you arent willing to put the hours and hours of effort into a Player VS Player online competitive video-game, where by you play against other real humans to compete to see which can reign victorious in the virtual battlefield of a medieval sword fighting arena...

then NO, you dont deserve to complain about balance, you DO NOT deserve to cry about cheap tactics, and you certainly under no circumstance have the right to dictate how other individuals play the game.

but on the other hand if you want to have a casual experience flip flopping around like a school girl pretending to be some big-shot warrior then by all means use the A.I feature and play with your friends. Nobody is stopping you from doing this until your ready to face the real world where you aren't held by the hand and spoon fed into victory with your pay to win mechanics. in PvP you are not entitled to jack ****. you need to EARN it.

Plenty of games that require the same if not more practice and knowledge have millions of players because they all accommodate for the casual by including bots, and the soon to come ranking system.

You can be as good as you want, but unless you are playing only 1vs1 there are so many random elements in 4v4 game modes that whatever you do or howewer good you are, there will be MANY games where you can only lose. 94% win rate... I don't think so
yeah mostly 1v1 - 2v2. i play a character to rep 1 before going into a 4v4 match with them to get a feel for how they duel. and on top of that until recently its taked 2-3 attempts to find a match outside of duels so its quicker to just do those.

A famous professional gamer once said in relation to a real time strategy (which i would consider the mechanics and fundamentals to this game being a bit like an RTS) paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, but if you have enough paper eventually you will win the fight.

Paraphrasing a bit, but in a nutshell to me in For Honor this translates to:

If you can know what weaknesses you have and build on them, eventually you can transform your weaknesses into strengths

I've heard people compare it to chess, which is an apt comparison. To win you don't attack faster than your enemy, you don't throw him off cliffs, you beat him by playing the better moves. You react and counter. Punish mistakes. Play to your enemy's weakness. Every class has a weakness and every player comes with his or her own weakness, too. You win by being methodical, reactive, and engaging the fight in the moment. Don't run into combat with a plan for what you're going to do. At every quarter second of the battle you need to refresh your strategy and come up with a plan.
i agree with this almost completely, aside from the last statement. i always go into a battle with some sort of plan. i know my opponents weaknesses and where i may have the upper hand and form a bit of a strategy to beat them. sort of a basic guide to outplay a specific character. However when this plan fails adapt and come up with new tactics. Heck sometimes i just go into a game and think you know what, i wanna kill this guy by throwing him into the fire. Or perhaps i will bait him to an environmental kill this game and just go ham on his face. always be unpredictable.
That said often these things dont apply and a plan is made up mid battle, if i notice someone is over using guard break i can abuse this, or if someone is getting in close and not GBing me i can abuse his flaws and mix it up to play a more aggressive match.
I always have a plan in my head, but the plan can change between characters im fighting, the map i am on, the players individual playstyle and definitely in between rounds.
Its a good idea to have a rough plan but i agree you have to adapt and change your strategy each round and even in the midst of battle.

but the truth behind why people get salty? Why do people get so angry at the emote spam and the taunts, and why does "gitgud" hurt people so much?
Its because deep down on some level everyone knows that the only reason you lose a 1v1 battle is because you made more mistakes than your opponent. and the key to making less mistakes is one part reaction time and two parts knowledge of the game. (also a small percentage can be boiled down to a poor connection i wont lie.)

His post is actually constructive feedback to players struggling and how to better themselves. Not just raging and complaining.

I disagree for myself personally. I always feel I learn faster and more completely by facing off against opponents far better than me. Not only do I recognize how top-tier players will engage, but I am allowed the chance to see some tactics/strategies/moves that lower tier players either don't know or can't pull off.

Conversely, playing people of my same or lower skill often breeds bad habits and playstyles that may "stick" with me for some time. I prefer playing people far better than me in fighting games to gain skill to faring well against people my skill level or stomping those beneath me.

    But each their own =)

my win rate in the closed beta after reaching rep 1 was 80%
my win rate in the open beta saw a closing of 85% after reaching rep 1
and in the release of the game upon reaching rep 1 with two characters my win rate was at 94%

I will repeat, i am by no means a good player i just took a greater understanding of the mechanics and matchups quicker than most. in the coming months my win rate will settle down to a more moderate level but my point it the following:

instead of complaining about balance or cheesy tactics you need to gitgud. and i dont mean this as an offence, you literally need to practice as this is a fighting game. during the betas i had spent about 40 hours playing the game, and without the word of a lie another 40 hours between down time watching for honor videos and tutorials. Heck just doing the advanced training boosted my abilities leaps and bounds.
Jump into a level 3 bot match and try to kill the bot 3 times before dying, once you can achieve that then you will have no trouble destroying 80% of the player-base i am usually that guy that makes fun of people that play against A.I opponents because "you beat a computer pre-programmed? well done, your at a 5th grade mental capacity..". however the level 3 bots in this game are no joke, they would literally crush everyone minus the top 10% of players that take the time to learn the game. I got my *** handed to me but after fighting a mirror matcup for 3-4 rounds i learnt my characters strengths and weaknesses and once again ascended to a new level of play.

Bear in mind though, playing against the A.I is great but can be misleading, the P2P system makes it difficult, example i can block an A.I level 3 bot all day long, and counter GB flawlessly but some matches against human players it just feels impossible. the lag really does ruin some games, but you have to adapt.

In summry you will only ever be as good at this game as your mind allows, if you start to think its unblanced, cheesy, impossible to counter than you will lose. you need to BELEIVE in yourself!!!

but seriously, start thinking positivly and you will win more. practice and you will see results.

Thank you for your post !

It is really sad to see how much trash people talk about this game.

The only thing i cant relate to are your p2p concerns. If anything, p2p should make it more synchronized, not less. Of course occasional disconnects and teleporting sucks, but its not the same as unsynchro. And bad ping has nothing to do with p2p. I can gb in pvp matches all day long.

However, i am happy to see someone talking sense here.

OP is correct. This is one of the most derp game forums I have ever seen. There are barely any threads I can even respond to, it's just literally hundreds of salt threads about people mad they lost.

And I'm not a pro by any means. But when I lose I don't blame everything but myself. I try to learn from it. And get better. I have beaten, and been beaten by, every class in the game. If Ubisoft listens to anything on this forum the game is in huge trouble. It's literally just a collection of the worst ideas and most garbage tantrum threads. No one wants to learn, no one wants to improve. Everyone just crying OP.
