The more I play Conq, the more I have to shield spam

So, I'm a Rep 2 Conq (small time, but still).

The higher I get up into levels against players, the more defensive I have to be.

The worst part of this, is that I'm absolutely forced to spam shield bash. I like shield bash, I like that it's bread and butter, but it's literally becoming my only move.

I can't really open with heavies because that's just asking to be parried.

I can't use lights because that's just asking to be blocked and grabbed.

So here I am, if I want any kind of offense at all, I have to use shield bash exclusively or wait for someone to attack me.

I don't mind the waiting part as much as the "I literally have no other recourse but to wait for you to mess up colossally", "or I could just spam shield bash".

Someone tell me I'm doing it wrong, someone tell me there's another way.

Sadly the bread and butter is the shield bash. It you don't always have to do heavy - shield bash - heavy - shield bash.

And it is highly predictable. If anything they should add a shield bash feint since conquerors are known for their shield

Rep 2 isn small game btw. Just means you have a life

Sadly this, in the high end of the game, attacking gets you punished, so you play defensively and hope your opponent messes up before you do. Attack is flawed, defense is perfect, so you can in theory defend against almost everything, and have little to no options (one option) to force an attack through, and that is GB into heavy with most other characters, or GB into environment, both of which means your opponent still had to screw up first. This is why the meta focuses on fast dodgy characters whose speed allows them to get low risk attacks in to force you to open up to fight back at which point they try to dissect you with parries, gb, and dodge counters. Also why the mantra of the meta is never attack first.

If the conqueror got a feint for a unlockable/unparryable maneuver, so should the rest of the characters who have them. Then the warden wouldn't be so unique with his bash/GB shenanigans, lol.

This. Welcome to decent MMR, sir.

That being said, you shouldn't always shield bash. You can dash to bait out a dodge and GB or, if they're assassins or kenseis, bait out the dash attack and parry it. You can throw out random lights sometimes. You may try to feint with omniblock, but it's of limited use. And... yeah, that's it.

It's better than Lawbringer play, though, when you can only top light and wait for them to attack you because nobody is buying those slow аss feints or getting hit by Long Arm.

As Jayxe said in their post under Combat & Strategy, using your shield bash is akin to a Warden swinging their sword. It's our primary weapon, and you should feel no shame in "spamming" it. In lieu of a true feint, we have to rely on baiting people with our side dodge>shield rush>light attack confirmed damage into dodging prematurely and giving us a chance for GB>heavy attack. Our charged heavy is dangerous because it can be parried, but if they enemy is particularly aggressive you can find moments where it's safe-ish. Remember that you can always bait foes into waiting for the parry, then dodge>shield rush>light attack from the charge.
