So I've done some testing with a few friends, all of different connection qualities and ability with the game.
And I think I've conclusively found what's broken about guard breaks on console, as opposed to PC.
So from my preliminary testing, I found that connectivity was to blame for a large portion of guard break counters simply not landing. I used a friend from scotland who would frequently redbar against me and I found it particularly difficult to hit the correct window, even though I knew it was coming, and even though he told me when he would do it.
However, after some further testing, I believe I've found the problem.
So the reason why spamming X doesn't work is because pressing it too early will lock off your window to counter a guard break - this is fine, this punishes spam.
However, what my testing revealed is that ANY input at all will lock off your window.
This appears to not be limited to anything, meaning that simply changing guard at the wrong time can lock off your window and make a guard break impossible to counter.
This isn't consistent, though, so I'm unsure as to whether this is strictly the case.
But from my testing, I have confirmed that inputs other than X will lock off your window in countering a guard break.
To me, this seems a little broken, especially since this appears to not be the case on PC.
Please confirm or refute this theory, and if confirmed, please fix.
Thanks.
So far on ps4 I've probably pulled GB counter on a player less than 10 times and I've had the game since release. Practiced with buddy seemed easy, get into game and basically pulled it off maybe 3 times since release. It's either broken, affected by the P2P network or I just blow at it! Seems that blocking at times against the back and forth light spam doesn't register right all the time too even when you think you got the block off. Same with parry but the gb counter is maddening especially when they spam it so you know it's coming but still square button says nooooooope. Maybe in the next patch but if it is related to P2P we might be in trouble. Queue the "git gud" crowd for this....
There is a Dev post about this being broken and that it will be fixed in the next patch. http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...y-Improvements
