Hey all!
Does anyone have some suggestions on how to deal with this matchup? As a LB, I find myself pretty dumbfounded fighting a PK spamming light attacks with feints, maybe a grab here or there. I get that when you get a block of you get your wombo combo going on and all that, the problem is by the time I get some blocks in and confirm some hits I am almost dead by that point. The pressure the PK puts on is real!
I feel like the conventional wisdom of play reactive and punish attacks isnt the best strat for this matchup, but I am looking for some perspective.
For the pk, zerker, orochi, and nabushi match ups the light parry is critical to winning. Every light pary you land does 2 bars of damage. After you land a second one trust me your opponent is going to be cautious. Also spear charge is garenteed off of a light parry and is perfect for driving your opponent into the wall. There is a combo off of a spear charge into a wall that can do 3 bars of damage. It isnt garenteed but spear charge, heavy, light, heavy, light some times connects.
I know the feeling.
The light attack spam is beyond infuriating once it gets started and if they chain it suddenly into a Guard Break you are looking at massive damage, bleeding status effect, and an enemy who is out of your range before you can even work into an offensive set of tactics.
What I try to do is take the fight to them as quickly as possible and hold nothing (but a tiny wee wedge of stamina) back. Basically if I can bully them around the arena with shoves and tosses to wear down their stamina I am doing well.
Also don't be afraid to guard break and throw them off ledges, they have trouble doing the same to you. It's not a matter of dishonour but if Assassins can Guard Break reliably into obscene guaranteed damage values and get out of range with dodges then I'm using my characters increased throw distance to full effect.
Well, doing a light attack spam against a LB is pretty risky though. They get parried once and you can nail them with a guaranteed Overhead. As LB, I find shove very useful in these situations, you shove them into walls and such, give them no room for maneuver, they'll be pissed and make mistakes sooner or later. The trick is time your shove right, mess it up and you'll get punished, BADLY.Originally Posted by TheCadian_ Go to original post
I've walked right into a few of those shoves that my opponents have dodged handily and punished harshly.Originally Posted by VMPL1 Go to original post
Previously I wasn't aware the light parry would allow me a top heavy. I'll work to adjust and take advantage of that. The issue I found for myself though are the long chains of light attacks that chip through my guard and simply do not stop coming or allow me time to counter attack. Peacekeepers just slip away from me. Going to work on bettering my game this evening.
I find that if I dash to the same side as PK, Orochi, I can guarantee a shove before they can hit me. If they try to dash near me, I just GB them. I wouldn't rely on Block + Shove Combo because Assassins can attack faster than my guard switch. I take the initiative and shove them. After a few times, they get scared and keep their distance, I then use that opening to corner them without them realizing it.Originally Posted by TheCadian_ Go to original post
As LB, you should always be the one applying pressure, even if you can't kill them, make them scared of attacking you. Since LB doesn't have any reliable combo, all you can do is to trick them to make mistakes so you can either GB+Heavy/Parry Light + Top counter/Throw them into the wall + Chain, depleting all of their stamina is a good way to do so. Average players will panick when they run out of stamina and mid-good tier players will usually get pissed after a few times, that's when you shine.
