ive heard the exact same thing
the AMD 64bit systems have the kind of grunt you want for gaming
low or no slow-down in FB even when combat gets at its busiest
while top frame rates havent been showen to be greatly faster over the good 32bit systems , the new AMD 64bit based systems ppl have put together run FB way more smoother . . . . .
. . . . especially when FB gets busy
.

get the A64 1 mb cache.
With teh 512 K cache you'll have to make it 100 150 mhz more to make the same performance and maybe not even.

The facts:
I got an amd643200 last winter. I've ran 32bit XP pro on it the whole time, but installed another drive to test the XP64 beta.
I found that the drivers from nvidia were slower in xp64 than in xp32, so I stuck with 32, while keeping xp64 on the other drive.
Yesterday I updated drivers and saw new ones for 64xp, so I booted 64xp and installed them.
I don't install games in xp64 unless I have too. AEP is one of the games that can be played from any drive, so the in-game video settings are exactly the same.
Blackdeath track in xp32: avg of 32 fps
Blackdeath track in xp64: avg of 72 fps (refresh rate).
If I go with perfect settings, both avg 13 fps. Chalk this up to nvidia being unable to render fb's screwy water (5700U. Oddly it renders waves in other games perfectly fine... even lomac).
I use onboard sound and want to mention its performance:
xp32: sucks. it just plain sucks. I can't get rid of the stupid "environmental effects" so everything sounds echo'ed.
xp64: awesome! the sound is exactly what I'd expect a real plane to sound like.
In xp64, the slowdowns/ pauses are rare. The game just runs as smoothly as they come. This is with a 128mb vid card.
TrackIR does not work in xp64. This is the only thing keeping me from making the switch.

I'm very glad to hear this, Baldie! I'll be putting a new Athlon 64 rig very soon, I bet it'll be quite an improvement from the tired XP2400+ I'm using quite now
