I call it 1 vs 1 Team Battle. The rule are similar to King Of Fighter series. All 8 player gathering at same area. Each team got 4 player and will send out 1 of the player to fight, other 6 player only able to watch the match and do some cheering/emotes at background (Fighting function are disable). Also the stage are surrounded by ton of soldier yelling around to get more immersion. When one of the team member lose, then the team send second teammate to replace him, the death member not allow to revive. The player who was win the match will reward by increase 10% of heal and continue fight with 2nd opponent. If you are good enough, you might win 4 opponent without send your 2nd teammate in the whole round. The next round turns will going to the teammate who no chance play in previous round.
This is actually an interesting idea, since heros have counters. Could work great in esports.
4 v 4, teams select heros in snake order as game progresses.
Team 1 selects hero, then 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1
Although, players on the sidelines.... wouldn't a giant ladder and series of 1v1 duels be just as entertaining? Interesting ideas nonetheless.
I like the idea, but I'm not sure the waiting for turns thing is going to be very popular in this title.
Maybe 2 vs 2 in different lanes also work? So like 2 teams of 4 players. Get split in 2 groups of 2.
And there is a wall or something in between. On left side Hero 1 Team 1 fights Hero 1 Team 2, whilst Hero 2 of both teams watch/cheer etc.
When 1 hero gets killed the other takes over.
On the right side of the wall the same happens. Hero 3 of team 1 fights Hero 3 of team 2. Heroes 4 watch. Hero 3 dies and hero 4 takes over.
Than when on both sides both opponents are killed the wall drops down and the remaining fighters fight it out.

I also really like this idea. It won't be the best for rewards, necessarily, but cheering on teammates while spectating a 1v1 sounds pretty sweet to me. It would make a really great custom game mode, at the very least.
You could sort of fake it/organize it in Elimination mode, but it'd have to be coordinated, and you couldn't do any really good health boosts after winning. And you'd have to make it a custom match to turn off gear.
Either way, really neat idea.
