Take some lessons from Mass Effect...

    Simple simple simple things.
Weapons have weight. The heavier the weapon, the lower your stamina and agility.
The really heavy weapons hit super hard and are very accurate so it's a good trade off.
The lighter weapons make you faster, tougher and speed up your cool downs.

You have the option of how many weapons you carry and the fewer weapons you carry, the lighter the load...see above.

I have an adept character that carries only a handgun.
Super powerful skill power and super high stamina and agility.

I also have an assault character that carries only an assault rifle.
Not much heavier or slower than the adept but hits like a Mack truck with the rifle.

They need to take into account that in real life,an M60 machine gun requires a squad to be effective.
The gun and ammo is over 100 pounds to be combat effective.
Machine gunners need to rely on squad mates for ammo.

    Oh sure.

Remember ME3 MP? Where everyone used the Widow? EVERYONE USED IT.
    Because SMGs sucked.
    ARs sucked
Pistols other than the Carnifex sucked.
Pretty much every Shotgun other than the Claymore used on a Soldier sucked.

And then they released new guns, that trivialised old ones - the explosive Sniper Rifle that launched freaking missiles.
The ONLY SMG that was viable for a long while (the N7 one).

And how the only way to play Adepts was basically spam any 2 skills to prime for a biotic explosion and then detonate it. And how the Vanguard was basically reduced to the same crap but with more eyecandy.

And the severe diminishing returns of Cooldowns due to Weight.

The only lessons to learn (from any stat driven game) is to do your number crunching right. FFS bite the dollar and employ an engineer to do your numbers or something.

The Blood Pack Punisher, pure fun.
Seriously: i like the diversity of ME3MP (so many really different weapons, classes, playstyles, characters, powers...) funny one-liners ("Big machine!", "Wrrrrraaaaghhh!"). On top of that the MP is a free addon to the single player and DLCs came for free. I played the hell out of it, and still am.

Diversity is a point that keeps a game fresh and fun in my book and indeed this is a lesson one could learn from.

    No duh.

It was 1/(1+CD). Which meant that the more cooldown stats you get the less effective the total bonus was. Your Pistol/SMG only adept was only half a second faster on cooldowns that the rest of the players who used an AR and a shotgun.

    I get ya...
I'm just talking about a weight system being used here. It wouldn't have to be a carbon copy.

    And actually...maybe you quit earlier?
The cooldowns are heavily effected by mods added to your weapons.
My handgun adept has almost no cool down.
Of course my Paladin armor with 50% cool down haste helped a lot too.

Off topic, but at the same time kind of on topic: God I can't wait for Andromeda to be released. I have a feeling I won't be starting up The Division for a loooong time.
