I'm playing as Nobushi. I've been playing everyday since the game came out and I have a 70% win ratio. As far as I'm aware, I don't think I've beaten a single Orochi in 1v1. He's so quick and he hits so hard, there's literally no point me even attacking as every Orochi is just waiting to sidestep then light attack into guard-break over head heavy. Then maybe a step-back charge.
Get some distance and wait for them to attempt their dodge, use zone attacks and cancel out after the first hit, you can also make heavy attacks and fake them out into a kick (whether it lands or not). Also abuse hidden stance for sneaky hits and keep in mind they cannot hold their guard in the same place for too long. Try intentionally missing heavy attacks and then leading into kicks for best results. If they block it, they can potentially parry which puts you in a worse position to be guard broken.
If only it were that simple...Originally Posted by Fuzzybutts Go to original post
How about don't attack them. Sadly there isnt any use to attack because when you attack first you are more likely to get hurt first.Originally Posted by GreenRanger XI Go to original post
Wait for them to attack dodge with hidden stance or parry and punish them yourself. If they always dodge attack feint your attack and attack from the other direction.
I feel you pain bro, and hopefully they do something about the sidestep meta. Currently, if you fight someone like Orochi, as Nobushi(or anyone slow for that matter) your only choice is to stand in front of them and bait back and fourth until they do something and try to counter it. You CANNOT attack first as Nobushi vs an Orochi. I am a decent player and I have learned how to beat good Orochi players, but what I just said above is the only way you can do it.
Here is the really messed up thing though. Once a good Orochi notices that you know how to counter their bs sidestep, all they have to do now, is mixup sidestep -> guardbreak. I'm kind of salty that I even have to admit this, but I'm hoping the devs will eventually notice.
The counter to sidestepping is to guardbreak, but as far as I know, Orochi cannot be guardbroken when he does sidestep - > light because it considers the whole animation an attack, so if you react quickly with a GB(which you need to do against sidesteps), you will get hit.
Now, once he knows that you know this, he has this devastating option. Sidestep -> GB. So now the mixup is 50/50: is he gonna sidestep light? or sidestep GB? What does this mean for you? It means that if you try to parry the sidestep attack, you just got guardbroken, and if you try to wait for the sidestep GB, you either possibly just got hit, or you (at most) blocked the sidestep attack, and now don't have any advantage (unless a block on the sidestep attack is a free GB which I doubt).
If a blocked sidestep light isn't a punish, that means the best you can do is press the dodge button to do a coiling retreat and reset the neutral, WHICH DOES NOTHING FOR NOBUSHI BECAUSE SHE CANNOT ENGAGE AN OROCHI OR ANY ASSASSIN. Sorry for using caps, but I am pretty salty just even explaining this. I have though of many other ways around this but it just wouldn't work, and the fact that simply facing an assassin as Nobushi(and a few other warriors)puts you on 100% defense for the whole match is just sad.
How about anticipating the sidestep and then using light attacks you say? The first one will miss, and the second one will come out so slow that the sidestep attack will hit you, so no, that isn't an option. GG. This **** is ridiculous. Spread the word.
Orochi is a good character but he's being over used. And that will make players know the match up against him faster than the rest.
Orochi has 3 mayor approaches.
- The storm rush which is fast but easy to read.
- Side step light attack
- Dash in for GB or Light attack
These are your keys.
-If you keep your distance well he can't use storm rush.
-Slowly closing the gap to rush in with a GB or random light attack is a high risk for Orochi.
-Most likely will try to side step light attack to open you up.
You want the orochi to go for the third. Read him and get ready to parry or block those side lights.
If you parry> Basically a GG or at least half his life gone to the orochi. Go for the poke/kick sequences. Once Nobushi starts her Poke/kick on someone it's hard to get her off. Go for 2 repetitions. On the third go for a GB if successful land the bleed combo. And back away. Since you're probably low on stamina. Now the orochi is forced to take initiative on you. And the neutral game starts again.
If you block> Once orochi starts side attacks he basically can't stop or has to go for GB. If he stops you have a window to open him up and do the same thing you'd do after a parry. You gotta be very mindful of the read. Keep calm and keep your inputs slow with timing.
If orochi starts his light attack/grab string you gotta keep you cool head. And actually know the sequence. When he goes for the GB counter it. Don't try to parry after being hit. Go for blocks instead. There is a instance where the orochi has to land 2 light attacks. This is your best window. Block the 1st parry the 2nd after that i already said what to do.
Some extra things you can do.
If orochi wants yo to close in so he can storm rush you. By all means go in. Storm rush is easy to read and counter. So parry it and have a GG.
If orochi is going for the slow approach harass him while he's doing it. A very useful tool is your side step heavy. It comes from the opposite direction from when you dash and it has decent range. If the orochi believes you are going for a poke you can hit him with the side heavy easily.
Fun fact, most Orochi fans are Weeaboo Beta cucks.
Insults and hate aside, the Orochi is probably the single most overpowered class in the game simply because it has too many good things and not enough drawbacks.
It has high damage for an assassin as well as some of the fastest and most rewarding attacks and chains. If you somehow manage to draw the lottery and fight against an Orochi who doesn't spam side-step and slash, you'll still have to deal with guardbreak + double overhead strike spam until you're dead.
Then there's the Kensei which has gotten to be ridiculous since he was released with super buffs and stupidly long reach with his blade as well as a nearly imperceptible light attack spam chain.
The only thing that is actually telegraphed is the Storm Rush ability since he needs to enter an obvious stance to trigger it.
