The more I've thought about it these past couple of days, the more I've come to the conclusion that its utterly pointless.
With maxed 163 gear, we can run around happily killing bots in tier 1 (pencil in players here if you are more of that persuasion)
Then we decide it may be fun to move into tier 2 and max the 182 gear pieces and proceed to do the same again. (Although the now knackered into the floor gear sets are introduced here, but whatever)
Then we go again into tier 3, rinse and repeat with 204 pieces. Then 4, then 5.
Then we sit there and twiddle our thumbs waiting for tier 6 and its probable 280 score pieces.
We are gaining nothing but a score by doing this, there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, no badge that comes through your door with a 'well done you beat the game' slogan emblazoned across it.
Is iy just me having a moment, or does anyone else ever think this way?
What's the point in playing to be honest. When a patch comes out you have to rebuild your god damn characters. When you finally sort your characters out again, another patch is announced that'll mess you characters up again in a few weeks.Originally Posted by MerlinMMX Go to original post
Changing world tiers might be hassle for new players, but you'll have the most players in the highest world tier than any other tier. Also, there's no point in min/maxing in any other tier except 5, because of the fact that there is tier higher than the one you'll currently be in. They are all temporary, except 5 at the moment, and your best bet is to get through them with somewhat decent gear, so that you are able to get the highest, and also best, gear score items and join the majority of the population.
So the point is then, to get to 5, because thats where everyone else is? Thats the sole purpose of the tier system?Originally Posted by Merphee Go to original post
The Tier system was put into place to give the game a more controllable difficulty / power creep scaling... That has all been washed away with 15, and 1.6.
Massive couldn't find their butts with one hand tied behind their backs.
The amount of putting all the time and money into changing the game and then just make those changes null and void with the next patch to appease a PVP minority is mind-boggling and the definition of insanity.
All I can see is that there is literally no point. You can play exactly the same game minus the dreadful incursions and challenging mission mode at 163. You will feel the same level of power vs NPCs or other players due to TTK and TTBK.
It was just another carrot that we all ran for, like sheep in a field, being chased by a dog.
Essentially.Originally Posted by MerlinMMX Go to original post
My guess is that Incursion matchmaking, or any mission matchmaking is trash in any tier except 5. I think Legendary will be a teir 5 thing as well.
I have to agree. Right now it's kind of pointless trying to level up to gear score 256 (as MerlinMMX said it's just a score) You can get just as good of a game on tier 1 with gear score 163, hell you can get gear score 207 (I think that's the gear score) on the purples on tier 1 if you want to go a bit higher with less talents and attributes but still have a fun challenging game.
Thank the PvP crowd for that...moreso...thank Massive's constant pandering to the PvP crowd. Most, if not all, of the nerfs and changes to gear have come from PvP'ers complaining about getting melted by some build in the DZ.Originally Posted by Disturbed59 Go to original post
Massive really needs to make separate PvE and PvP changes, or make all PvP in the game have normalization like Last Stand so we don't have all these constant gear changes to satisfy PvP balance.
I wouldn't worry about it at this point.Originally Posted by Tizodd Go to original post
It's a shame because many of us like the PVE game play, but this is not what Massive and Red Storm like. So, this is not their priority. Last Stand will be the end of the contractual DLC, and Hamish claims they will continue to patch the game past 1.6, but who really cares at this point?
There is no new content for PVE, so any changes... Brought about by minority PVP... Will adversely effect PVE as it has done in the past. This means, farming the same equipment with minor changes doing the same, damn limited activities we've already done before. There is no point playing past 1.6 because they don't seem to be hinting at adding any substantial PVE / Y2 content. So, once again, what is the point in playing any world tier past 1.6?
