A guide to open NAT and fix "Failed to join Group"

    Hello everyone,

For the past 3 days i have been endlessly searching and attempting to fix my For Honor game issues. I think i finally figured it out and hope with this guide i could help out some of you too by sharing this information.

Its a pitty players have to deal with this and that No one at Ubisoft is able to do this and write a proper HOW TO or patch the game for its bugs... Or atleast patch it sothat it tells you what the f*** is wrong with your game. Because believe me or not "Failed to join group " has nothing to do with your network really ... Here's my fix and information on the issue:

    My Setup description:

If you have the same or a similar setup like me, then this will fix your NAT problem. If not , then you could try to workaround with some of the steps im about to tell you.

My PC is connected through the net like this: Internet - ISP Main Router - Cable/PowerLine to TP-link router - Cable to my PC

I live in an apartment so thats why we have a separated router in our room so that we have cable and wirless internet at full speed and proper signal.

Now I forwarded ports on my main router, on the TP-link router, even added my PC to DMZ of both and so on , but whatever i did i still had STRICT NAT. I never had issues with any other games until this one came out. I found out if you have the same setup like me , or basicly go through 2 routers, you have to setup your 2nd router where your computer is connected to: as an ACCESS POINT. Its the only way to have an open NAT.

Below you find the steps and below that more information about it.

How to setup your 2nd router as an Access Point

you can find most information about your network by using WINDOWSKEY + R or go to start and type in run,
type in: cmd to open the command console , then type in the command: ipconfig /all
    Under ethernet adapter
( if ur on cable ) or Wireles adapter youll find everything you need to know. ( Such as Ipv4 adress, which is your computer ip , subnet mask , default gateway, dhcp server , dns server ....)

    1. Login into your 2nd router
    2. Disable DHCP
    3. Set your WAN connection type too: Static IP and assign an IP in the range of your Main router ( just choose it but make sure its in the same format as in what you saw in the CMD console )
    4. Fill in Subnet mask ( which you also saw in the CMD console )
    5. Default gateway shouldnt be added. normally it detects that automaticly but if it doesnt, then thats the IP of your main router ( or what you also saw in the CMD console )
    6. Switch the cable from the WAN gate to a randomly open ethernet gate (LAN) on your second router. see this picture: http://static.tp-link.com/resources/...es/0504a-1.png
    7. Reboot your router
    8. Now your 2nd router is fully configured as Access Point + YOU HAVE AN OPEN NAT NOW

    Extra:

DHCP: ( If your router has this, this feature bascily assigns NEW IP's to your devices connected to it. But your main router is doing that too, so its better to let just 1 router assign IP's where traffic comes in first to your devices to have the best proper line of data stream )

Static IP: ( Check what IP your main router is assigning to other devices, something like 158.789.X.X and then add a free one to your router: For instance if your main router assigns 158.789.1.10 to your phone , then you could give your 2nd router a static IP like 158.789.1.11 )

Why set a 2nd router as an AP: The IP adresses to your devices are handed out by the main router then. In the control panel of your main router you will also now see your own computers or phones appear instead of the 2nd router or in other words you have a straight line of traffic from the internet that comes into your house, to your computer.

How to Fix " Failed to Join Group "

This was reallly hilarous , so when my gf and i finally got our NAT OPEN ... we still couldnt join my brother who was in another city. No matter what we tried !!!! ... I think i was about to throw my pc through the window ... the frustrations where real..

    ANYWAY

So it turns out that error came up , not because of your network ... but because of previous installed files from the beta. Please check your main installation folder.

If you see files from before 14/02 -> DELETE IT , check all the folders though
If you have an Beta install folder from for Honor -> DELETE IT

Then in Uplay, verify your games files and it will redownload the latest ones. Once thats done, youll be able to join your friends and finally play together ! ( At least we could )

Please leave a comment if it helped you , or if it didnt or if you have difficulties, just shoot, ill try to help out as much as i can, and im sure others will do so too.
    Have a nice day !!!

What about router which have "Bridge mode"? also mine doesn't have any WAN ports (only for phone cable). I'm not really sure if i have static IP because my ISP don't let me to check main router settings (not sure why :V ). 2nd thing, in my case this looks like this:

1.Antena which works also as "Main Router"
2.Switch (cable from antena is in sister room so...)
3.Router tp-link td-w8901g in Bridge mode (upnp and other options are as enabled)
    4.My PC (yay!)

I guess the only thing i can do is to call my ISP and ask about static IP but not really sure if this would even work :V

    Mist

**** off money and work your magic with all sorts of settings. For this attitude it is necessary to strictly punish the developers and give everyone a free season pass.

My buddies and I are all computer junkies that goes way back to the 90's. We all have very nice rigs that cost a lot of money. I have fixed problems like this before with fire wall adjustments and port forwarding and all that you can think of. This isn't our first rodeo and I took A+ and CCNA 15 years ago before I became an engineer. Since this game has come out. I have been seeking the fix for the group invites and I can't find anything that will work. I can join one of my friends just fine. He lives 45 minutes south of my other buddy and I and has a different ISP. No the buddy who lives a mile down the road who has the same ISP, we can't join together in a group, however we both can join my other buddy and it works fine until one of us gets in the game.. whoever joins last gets kicked out of the group. I have no clue why it's doing this... we play tons of other games together and have never had this issue in years. I have posted a support ticket and no one has gotten back with me. I have spent literally 8 hours total trying to figure out if its the firewall, the various window settings and we can't figure it out. I feel ilke UBI should be trying to resolve this before they make character balancing and we have all considered trying to get our money back because even though it is a good game, if the developer does not care about trying to make light of these problems then we just don't care to play their games anymore. This is the 2nd time that I've used ubi and been a little dissapointed.
