    Thoughts on potential Domination Meta

So as it stands right now, it feels like the majority of players more or less do their own thing, esp. if your playing in "solo queue". However, I've been giving a bit of thought regarding a sort of "Meta" for Domination with the different classes in mind. I welcome any and all discussion, critiques, etc.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to assume Capture Point B is the battlefield.

    WARNING! WALL OF TEXT INCOMING

So first off, let's take a look at the roles.

Vanguards: Vanguards seem to have a natural fit with B, with their large sweeping attacks able to clear soldiers quickly, decent all around stats, and decent sustainability with the Body Count feat. I know it's not necessarily the best feat, but it makes up for the battlefield not passively healing you just by standing in it.

Heavys: The Heavy makes for a great capture point defender. Plop him on either A or C (preferably on the point closest to your spawn when applicable) and enjoy the benefits of a boosted point. Pretty much the Heavy's job is to make sure that regardless of how the battlefield is going, your team is always getting +2 points per tick. In the event of a 2v1, their high defense should allow you to turtle down and wait for reinforcements.

Assassins: I would consider Assassins as aggressive "floaters". Their job is to capture the third remaining point, and hunt down singled out players. Essentially think of them as the aggressive harassers, picking off targets, retreating to either the battlefield or the capture point being held by the defender for health.

Hybrids: Where Assassins are the "aggressive floaters", the Hybrids are either a "defensive floater" or "support floater". Since the hybrids each behave differently, adjust as necessary. But essentially, their job is to assist either the Vanguard or Heavy if they need back-up, or assist the assassin in attacking the third point, based on the state of the match.

Now, in rare instances should a team have 3 people in the same location. While those who adhere to the "zerg mentality" may call this blasphemy, hear me out. Yes, getting 3v1'd is more-or-less a guaranteed RIP, but that's 3 out of 4 people all grouped up in one location. That also means your other 3 teammates are out there hopefully securing the other two points. Remember that in Domination, your first goal is to get to 1000 points as quickly as possible. Kills set the enemy team back, but 3 or 4 people killing 1 or 2 of the enemy team is inefficient (unless you're also on an unorganized team, than it's just chaos).

So let's take a look at some examples to help further cement my thoughts.

    Setup

    Heavy on A

    Vanguard on B

Assassin floating between B and C

Hybrid floating between A and B

2 enemies go to C to capture, 2 go to Battlefield. Vanguard calls for backup (R1/RB), which informs the Hybrid that he needs backup. 2v2 in battleground. The 2 from C leave, 1 going to the battlefield to make it a 3v2, 1 leaves for A, to 1v1 the Heavy. If the assassin can't make a safe pick one of the 2 leaving from C (ie: not getting into a 2v1), then go straight to C and cap it. Meanwhile, the battlefield becomes a 3v2. The Vanguard and Hybrid should be attacking 2 different people, as to not trigger Revenge. Hopefully that becomes a 2v1 and a 1v1. If your 1v1 wins, go and assist the 2v1 into a 2v2. If the 1v1 loses, it becomes 3v1 and you might as well fall on your sword. HOWEVER, both A and C are still ticking away. So obviously the enemy team is going to split up to get A and C or are going to zerg rush to one point, more likely they'll split up. So let's look at the battlefield so far.

    A: Heavy vs. 1 with 1 incoming.

B: 3 Enemies, Vanguard and Hybrid respawning.

    C: Assassin vs. 2 incoming.

At this point, your team should be trying to "reset". The Vanguard should meet the Assassin at B and recapture it. The Hybrid should be on their way to backup the Heavy who will soon be 2v1 at A. The goal is to always control 2 points, with someone boosting one of them as much as possible. Remember that a boosted point is as good as 2 points.

Now in the event that your team is able to reset, the third capture point should be something you use to draw at least a few of the enemy team members away from the battlefield and the Heavy defended point. If an Assassin and Hybrid can hold it down, all the better, but they need to be ready to move at a moments notice if either A or B need backup.

Now a few caveats. Obviously this assumes your team is capable of winning 1v1s, and all the strategy in the world will mean squat if you can't seem to take out that enemy Orochi. I am also aware that this may be a little boring for those Heavys that may be sitting somewhere alone for who knows how long, but know that your presence at a capture point is setting your team up for victory. And since you gain Renown for boosting points, you don't need to worry about not gaining feats. Also, I should also point out that while I do assign roles to their assigned job, those are interchangeable based on player skill and team comp. You could have a Berserker player who is just absolute boss at dodging, parrying, and blocking holding down A just fine. Or a Conqueror who can clear waves of soldiers on B quickly and efficiently, and has the added benefit of having a higher survivability.

Ultimately, this is mostly theory crafting, and doesn't account for every possible scenario, but I'm hoping it gets people thinking about what Domination could be other than a chaotic mosh pit.

Good thread, I wish we could get more of this sort of discussion rather than "X character is OP/useless".

Personally I think that the core of all team comps should be, like you said.

    Vanguard on B
    Heavy on the nearest point
    Assassin floating

The 4th slot is more of a flex pick. In theory hybrids are well suited for this position, especially since they get fed from everything but I can see an extra Assassin being totally viable. The Shugoki can also be a good addition, he's not really a great defender but he defiantly has utility as an assault tank.
