During a dueling session against a Valkyrie I've noticed a bug with the dodge counter against light attacks, where the shoulder pin that inflicts bleed can be blocked. We've done some testing and it seems to be an issue with recovery time.
We've tested the following characters:
Warden light: 100% blocked
Kensei light: 0% blocked
Warlord light: 100% blocked
Valkyrie light: About 50/50
We've found out that if you dodge at the earliest possible moment against the valkyrie you'll be able to pull of the shoulder pin move but if you are a little bit too late the pin will get blocked, despite hitting the timing for the dodge block. We think the recovery times of the respective heroes has something to do with it.
This is only an issue with light attacks, heavy attacks can be punished by the shoulder pin every time.
I thought it was bugged too at first, but i came to think it might actually just be a balance decision. The valkyrie player is always taking a huge risk when trying to dodge counter and should be rewarded greater (with a bleed in this case) for dodge countering a stronger attack because if she misses shes going to take a TON of damage or just outright die. If the valkyrie player is just trying to dodge counter a bunch of lights and misses the timing she won't be punished as hard and neither should the opponent throwing out the light attacks if they get dodge countered (AKA they shouldn't get hit by the bleed).
IMO if dodge countering guaranteed the bleed on every light it would be too strong and ultimately be abused over using her other super block counters on her light attacks.
That being said, dodge countering can still be used on lights if you link the dodges into Hunter's Strike or Pouncing Thrust or maybe even a guard break instead of linking into Shoulder Pin.
Kensei not blocking the Shoulder Pin on dodge countered lights is definitely a big sign its probably bugged though. Maybe Kensei's lights are just stronger?
