There should never be a circumstance in which a guard break can not be teched. Untechable guard breaks are part of the reason parrying is so ridiculously powerful and defensive players are a cancer to this game. Parrying drains a bunch of stamina from the attacker and stumbles them. That's enough. It doesn't need to guarantee a free untechable guard break that leads into free damage.
For how ridiculously powerful parrying is you would think it should be ridiculously hard to do, but it's not. Maybe the devs thought it would be, but they were wrong. Brand new players are already consistently doing it and it's leading toward a very frustrating and stale meta where attacking is detrimental. Please just **** off with the untechable guard breaks, there is no reason for them.
no, this is just part of the problem. this is the meta right before the pro meta of never attacking eachother. this is the meta where you feint to bait out attacks to parry, but then the meta evolves into feinting, opponent either doesn't parry or DOES begin to parry but feints their parry. Continue this forever as neither party attacks. It's just a really stale and boring way to play. I'm not suggesting that you can't play around it. Everyone has access to parrying and untechable free damage follow ups. My gripe is with it being indisputably the best way to play and it happens to be very boring and cornyOriginally Posted by xW11nD Go to original post
Thats not true though, you can't always tech a guardbreak. Guardbreak initiations are when the opperunity presents itself to use it. So when both players see the oppertunity that is what results in the execution of guardbreak. When both players initiate this move one will land the other will fail and there is no teching. Its a 100% in the favor of one of the two. And its rng.Originally Posted by ryaneko Go to original post
And quite a horrible interaction from a fighting game perspective.
it's just being reverted to how it worked in beta, where there were still 'untechable' guard breaks. If you get guard broken during an attack start up, you can't tech it. If you get guard broken during a dodge, you can't tech it. If you get guard broken after a parry, you can't tech it.Originally Posted by darksavior1977 Go to original post
It would be one thing if guard break follow ups were not powerful, but as it is you can follow up with literally the hardest hitting and most powerful moves in the game. If a shoguki guard breaks you and throws you into a wall, he can hit you with an unavoidable charge of the oni. Do you realize how insane that is?
