They are semi-risky. It is possible to parry without falling for feints, but I haven't seen anyone accomplish this yet.

Raider level 3 bot showed me this since he kept spamming this on me because I kept falling for his feints. I told this to Oroboro during his stream. He tested it and confirmed that neither he or his test partner could tech out of it if they cancelled their parry. If they didn't cancel their parry, then the other would just parry them. There is no way out if you fall for a feint.
Really? In the beta I'm certain that different attacks feinted faster than others. Maybe I'm just crazy. Sorry for the misinformation, everyone.

However, that fixes little. That just means that high level play is nothing more than RPS. And that's only if the opponent even bothers trying to parry. Not to mention nonfeintable attacks remain worthless because parries are still extremely easy.

Different attacks do feint faster. The Orochi had to delay his guard break slightly in order to confirm the grab on the Lawbringer whereas the Lawbringer had to mash straight from feint into guard break. As it was confirmed on both practically the slowest character in the game and the fastest, we can be sure that it works everywhere in between.

Drop by Oroboro's stream one of these days and thank him for testing this out : ). He was lamenting at how strong being defensive was and how there was no point to ever attacking and this mechanic renewed his motivation.

Keep in mind the guard breaks were buffed since closed and open. The window of time to counter one is smaller and you used to be able to side step them with ease, however now you only dodge them if you side stepped before the gb while you are close. There are other ways to counter one though. I do want tweaking of their defensive system but I wouldn't want an overhaul or a big change. The way it is now, if there are two good players you could end up having this amazing drawn out duel and it becomes very fun from there.

When it comes down to it, there are ways to prevent most things, just study your opponent and play accordingly.

That seems fair enough, but is also seems like A LOT more work on the offensive end to get a strike in than on the defensive end to protect against one. That is a mechanical problem in itself.

That being said, I still think getting free uncounterable GB off parry and free heavy strikes off GB is stupid.

@Meri - The way it is now though you actually end up having a staring contest with 2 very high-level players because attacking is extremely disadvantageous over just defending.
