Peer2Peer: Why so many people wish they didn't buy the game.
Alright, so I'll try to be fair and not rant so that we can actually bring some much needed awareness to this problem.
(To be clear, 5/5 of me and my friends who (try to) play this game have high tier internet connections, we're always on green or yellow NAT, never red. Also, the majority of us have hard-wired internet cables directly to our Xbox. Not wifi.)
When I first heard about this game I was like "whatever, I'm probably not going to buy it." That changed after I watched my friend play it in the closed beta. Suddenly, I was very intrigued.
The only thing that caught me off guard was how often he would be disconnected for no apparent reason, weather it be a minute into the game or 10 minutes into a game and nearly complete. He merely reassured me "It's just the beta, so this kind of stuff happens." Obviously, that was an extremely fair argument and my eagerness to get my hands on the game kept increasing.
Next came the open beta, so obviously my entire friend group picked it up and we played the hell out of it- as much as we could at least. The issue, was that much like when I was watching my friend play the closed beta, we would all randomly disconnect, sometimes all of us, sometimes a few of us or just one of us. For every 3 to 5 games we would try and play, we would only be able to complete 1 without at least one of the four of us disconnecting. Brawls weren't as bad, it was usually 50/50. Duels seemed to work 95% of the time. Again, we all dismissed this as growing pains for the game before it's full release and dealt with it of course.
All except one of us ended up pre-ordering the game, a whopping $91.99 CAD after taxes (We live in NB). Basically a hundred dollars.
Now the game is fully released. My money has been invested in this game, but something weird has happened. Nothing. Nothing happened. Nothing has changed. Thinking this might just be us for whatever reason, I look at the forums, this problem is a plague. One Ubisoft REFUSES to address. Today I had a contract to complete 3 dominion matches, I kid you not, it took me 7 games to do that.
Obviously, this game has a few things that make it somewhat titling. How strong/weak some classes are, but that's fine- it's a game. How dis-honorable some people are, but that's fine- It's a game. One thing I refuse to just "let go" is the fact I blew a hundred dollars on a game, and have invested probably around 25 hours of gameplay only to actually be "rewarded" in terms of xp/etc for maybe a 5th of that at most.
Yeah, I like all other get upset when I get ganked or cheesed expectantly. Or I play against a cheap character, or someone who uses cheap tactics etc. Hell, we've all done it. But I honestly can move past all that. This game needs to fix this problem, or it's going to be a major downfall. I bought The Division. I bought R6S. I enjoyed both of them thoroughly. I enjoy this game too, but I can't truthfully see myself ever purchasing a Ubisoft game again if this is something they expect their customers to "deal with". I'm not a huge IT guy, I don't know if the solution is dedicated servers, or what. But something needs to be done and soon or it's going to be another failed project that started off with hype and died. But, why should Ubisoft care really? They already sold upwards of 50% of all the copied they will ever sell, with ought having to invest in a practical game hosting system.
Sincerely, just another person who is enjoying the game, but is getting frustrated with preventable errors.
Thanks for reading guys.
