So I feel like parry is too powerful. It's the bread-and-butter defensive move and if you master it, you'll usually never lose a fight unless you attack. I feel like it needs to be dumbed down or made extremely difficult for the tradeoff you get. Also, running out of stamina just means you can't attack as fast or combo, big deal. There's no real drawback. Here are my thoughts on improvement.
--Make parry IMPOSSIBLE when you're exhausted (out of stamina and screen is grey) People who run out of stamina deserve to be punished for being overly aggressive. You can still block, but being required to just take heavy attacks while exhausted will still do some mild damage to you and doesn't prevent combos (unless you're a conquerer and all your blocks do this)
--Make dashing cost stamina in general (by extension, impossible when exhausted). This will prevent people from just running away while exhausted to recover stamina. Assassins may have reduced dash costs or something to make them stay mobile.
--Make parrying harder by either A) decreasing the window for parrying or B) make the enemy stagger for less time after a parry. As of right now parrying usually nets you a free heavy attack or a guard break on occasion. MAKE DEFENSE LESS EFFECTIVE OR MORE DIFFICULT. The meta needs to be broken. Against someone who's skilled in defense, you will NEVER win by attacking them, and the game will end in a stalemate or you losing because they can punish you. This needs to change.
Those are my thoughts. They aren't complicated, but I feel like one or two of these needs to happen. Make people punishable for not managing their stamina, make parrying harder or less useful, and generally make being defensive more difficult to perform.
I think the battle UI needs to be removed for competitive/ranked games. Blocking/dodging/parrying is WAY too easy cuz all you have to do is look at the big glowing red arrow and hit the same direction. It makes defensive play far more advantageous than offensive, and turn the game into turtle-fest. Without the UI, the game has higher skill cap, more interesting to play, and more competitive/e-sport viable.
