I love to play Valkyrie. She looks cools, her moveset feels just right. But her damage....oh my, that damage is ludicrous low. She's ment to be a hybrid assasin/vanguard. With the lowest damage per hit in the game, it doesn't feel right.
I'm doing terrybad with her, whilst being good (let's say ok-ish) with other classes. Valyrie's only viable tactic is to spam her CC-Chain and that one's easily avoided. And even if hit, that chain does not do much damage for the stamina it uses. Also, if you put someone to the ground your heavies won't connect. You have to dodge forward first and your heavy is blockable afterwards.
Also their dodge seems to have a even narrower timewindow as parries (or is it just me?).
Maybe some better players are able to enlighten me and I'm doing something horribly wrong. Maybe she's not all that bad. But I do feel like she's a lackluster right now. I play her, but it's not as rewarding as with other classes.
I totally agree. I already created a forum post with almost the same critiques that you have. Valkyrie is my favorite character, but I don't even play her as much as I normally would because I feel really weak with her. I switch to Nobushi and deal a ton more damage with far less effort. I know that is kind of the whole design of Nobushi, but I just feel like I have to work so much harder with Valkyrie than I do with other characters.
So I've been playing Valkyrie since TT2 and I was the highest placed Valk at 5th place in the 1v1 tournament held during TT2 and I actually agree with a lot that you have to say here. I don't think that damage buffs are what she needs, the damage is fine as long as she has safe options of aggression and ways to get guaranteed damage in. I think I would prefer they speed up the second light in her chains a tiny bit, give her actual mix-ups, like being able to cancel a shield crush or the end of shield tackle into a guard break. They definitely need to change her dash attacks to be safe on regular block, as they're relatively telegraphed and easy to parry. Shield crush does come out quickly but if dodged, has a long enough recovery time where you get a free guard break on her if dodged. It's alright for her to have low damage and force her to work for her damage like warlord does, as long as she has ways of getting the damage in. Warlord has headbutt and some fast heavies and heavies with armor to allow trades on reads. She won't be viable in 1v1s until she gets buffed unless you heavily outplay your opponent, or your opponent doesn't know what to do against her. Which is the case for all heroes. High level duels at the moment revolve around parries and guaranteed damage, highly incentivising defensive play. Which is why you see so much warden, despite warden being a vanguard and a relatively basic character. He has a very strong 50/50 and mix-up game coming from shoulder bash paired with very fast attacks out of his top light and double-indicator zone attack (I hate double indicators btw). I'll be releasing a Valkyrie guide very soon and i'm going to attempt to make her work despite the pitiful state she is in.
Thank you! Saved me the work. I've been waiting the whole time just to play her and its just not a smart option against players Who have any idea what they are doing.
But, about your shield cancel. On the heavy hit - guard break - that can lead to meet sweep. Try another double tap and it sends you into pull run which they can't counter guard break. I used it a few times once people figured out the sequences.
