Played Lawbringer to Rep 4 now.
My review of him is that he excels at nothing.
All his special parries aren't really unique except the Impaling Riposte.
Every character in the game gets a unblockable, unpariable, undodgeable top heavy attack after parrying a light attack.
So Blind Justice only adds a fancy visual and sound effect.
The warden is even better at this.
He gets an unparriable unblockable heavy attack after parrying any top attack, that does almost the same amount of damage the Lawbringer does.
The Impaling Riposte....
Only thing I ever used this attack for is after parrying a light attack when my opponent stands in front of a cliff to have an instant win.
Otherwise I have no idea what I can use this for.
Getting a top heavy? I can use Blind Justice to get one, so why use Impaling Riposte?
Light Riposte...
Why would I ever use this one?!
I can get a heavy attack after almost every parry, so why would I want to have a light attack???
Only use I see is after parrying a heavy attack so far away you can't go for a guardbreak.
In most cases this is only against fighting a Nobushi, but against a Nobushi it's also likely this parry was from a light attack, so Blind Justice is actually better...
Make Way.
Never used it, because I can't find any benefit.
The whole idea for the Lawbringer is great, it's just his kit isn't doing what he's supposed to.
He isn't excelling at parrying any attacks, he can do basically the same stuff any character in the game can do.
I've gotten to rep 8 on him. Honestly, I just think his damage numbers need to be +5 on some attacks and +10 on others. He simply doesn't do enough damage to be scary.Originally Posted by steak0815 Go to original post
However, I do agree that his kit is not optimized for being a counter attacker, especially since his parry attacks are all weaker and less useful than a simple guard break, which any character can do.
He has no unique features that set him apart from other characters, even within his own character archetype of counter attacking. He simply doesn't have tools that are useful, and most of his strengths are better performed by different characters with less risk and more rewards
Impaling Riposte is technically better than Blind Justice. I think. Impaling Riposte into wallstun into top heavy is more damage than Blind Justice... maybe.Originally Posted by steak0815 Go to original post
Light Riposte is for 1vX. You parry and damage them quickly without opening yourself up too much. It also can be used to punish long range heavy attacks you can't Blind Justice or GB-side heavy.
I think Make Way doesn't even work.
They probably designed him for 4v4 and outnumbered fights. He sucks there too, but I think that was the idea.
Technically Impaling Riposte should give you more damage, if you manage to hit any of the follow up attacks after the top heavy...Originally Posted by Shinimas Go to original post
Practically it's only useful to push people off ledges. (which is nice tbh, it's an insta-kill)
I don't know if they should keep this in the game, I would prefer some other options to go for after parrying a heavy rather than just going for a Guard Break.
The Light Riposte for an example should definitly start a chain to be any useful in cases where you can't Guard Break.
Otherwise I would like to see some tweaks for the Impaling Riposte, it should give the opponent some kind of debuff.
What else I would like to see with the Lawbringer is having more range on the Long Arm, that would make a nice mixup when you shove.
If you simply can't backroll after a shove, because you might get caught with a Long Arm, there wouldn't be a safe space when he starts engaging.
It becomes a 30/30/30 (Long Arm, Guard Break, Attack) where your reactions need to be on time or at least exit the log-on to side-roll.
Also the staggering after a Long Arm should allow the Lawbringer to hit with a heavy, imho it's silly he only gets a light after such a risky move.
My lawbringer k/d ratio in duels was 8/1 until today, and now I just lost 9 matches in a row doing the daily order. People are learning how to counter lawbringers, and since we rely exclusively on counterattacking, and bashing using easily dodgable attacks, we are pretty much worthless when fighting vs someone who knows how to initiate without risking a counterattack (Warlords). Matchmaking literally put me up against 3 warlords in a row who could headbutt, and have their guard back up before I could strafe and light attack.
If this becomes a trend I am not going to learn another class just to be countered further down the line again.
Literally all my matches today I have been faced up against big guys who always initiate with an unparryable attack, and then have their defense up too quickly to strafe and quick attack, or fast attackers who I could never hope to parry in a million years. It seems to have become so much harder to excel at this game as a lawbringer just today, as yesterday I was still winning half my matches.
Also it is worth mentioning he is listed as a hybrid of a heavy, and a vangard.
He does have the aoe attack like a vangard, but is is nowhere near fast enough to use in battle, and you will easily be blocked and most likely parried. Compared to a true vangards aoe which is impossible to parry, and impossible to block unless you just default to that guard position when you fight them.
Comparing him to heavies he has the same issues of not being quite to the cut. He has a lot of health, but unless you are fighting a class that initiates with a weapon attack, and they are using an ability that is within reason to parry, you are just gonna be a giant target. We cant trade hits to any degree like the sho, and we have no unavoidable attack initiated from a block like the conq and warlord. The only guaranteed damage is the unavoidable light attack triggered after a parry, and if they just avoid initiating with an attack that leaves us on the defensive the entire fight.
It's particularly insulting how the warlord's headbutt confirms damage while LB's shove confirms absolutely nothing.Originally Posted by Casper5632 Go to original post
That and warlord's hyper armor on his heavies.
A Rep 9 Orochi yesterday showed me how to punish Shove.
He just always did his zone attack after I shove.
Needless to say I got hit by it every time.
There was no chance of doing anything after a shove.
And I had to stop using shove to fight this orochi, otherwise I would have just died to the zone attack after shove.
Next fun thing is that shove adds to the revenge meter.
So you get punished even more for doing shoves in 1on1.
+ Warlord has the ****ed up timing on his heavies which makes them nigh impossible to parry!Originally Posted by Gen.Armchair Go to original post
