I noticed one more thing playing with Valk, a lot of ppl tries to keep distance from me. I think its because when you meet every else calss you know what they will try to do, or have a clue what to expect.
When you meet Valk, you should have to expect everything xD
Guys, in my opinion Valk is a really good class even without the incoming bufff: you just have to realize that she is not about damage or dashing, but she is all about her CC (Crowd Control) abilities.
I am now Rep 3 with Valk and after have been beaten badly in the first 2/3 days i went from a 40% win rate to a solid 60% (playing basically only with people over Rep 5).
Even now she is a very versatile hero, you have a lot of combos to mix up with and i think she even has a REAL vortex 50/50, like the Warden, i think all of you knows what i am talking about, but to be sure is like this: Parry + GB + Heavy (she can land even a Top Heavy) + Shield Bash + (now the 50/50) SWEEP or another GB. If the try to dash the sweep they get a not counterable GB, if the wait for the GB they fall for the Sweep. If the Sweep goes in you can have a guaranteed Heavy + Bash + Another Sweep or another GB.
I found a lot of people who ALWAYS tried to dash the Sweep, so i always went for a GB. I know it seems like spam but it's their fault to not be clever enough to counter it.
Someone before said that she can't get a guaranteed GB after a parry, not true at all in my experience: i can always get the GB even against Nobushi if you fastly dash forward and GB right after the parry.
BTW, even now she is very versatile, after the patch she will be able to mix all up even more using the new links they will provide to her and if the light attacks are going to be fast as i hope, even light attacks chains will be a possibility!
I am no pro, but if you want other tips or combos with Valk, feel free to ask!
I really hope you're talking about 1v1 duels because every class is viable and able to kick butt in 4v4s because you're never alone, or at least you shouldn't be if you want to win.Originally Posted by Master047 Go to original post
Please correct me if i'm wrong but isn't vortex just another term for stunlock? A combo, or series or combos, that, if done properly, allow you to lock down an opponent and leave him no way out? Because if that's the case then no, the Valk doesn't have a vortex. The sweep is very easily dodged and even if you go into a charge->GB instead of a sweep the opponent can still counter-GB not to mention that you have to charge->GB even before your opponent tries to dodge to pull the grab off in the first place or you're grabbing nothing but air thanks to the i-frames at the beginning of the dodge.Originally Posted by Master047 Go to original post
Which works against most classes unless you're parrying the very end of your/their weapon. The distance, when fighting a Nobushi, is just too long to reliably grab them with a single dash->GB before the parry knockback wears off.Originally Posted by Master047 Go to original post
The Valk is very versatile but her big damage being at the end of combos, which no opponent will allow her to land, is what cripples her. In addition to her assassin-tier health pool of 120 points and her reach and attack speed that sits somewhere between a Wardens and a Raiders all the tools in the world couldn't help her when it comes to actually finishing off her opponent. Her overhead heavy, which btw.: deals as much damage as a side heavy and is the lowest of all characters, can only seal the deal if that opponent already came back from critical health.Originally Posted by Master047 Go to original post
Go play the viking story Valk and tell me you're fine with the way she plays in the MP.

And yeah this is also my idea, although I feel like I hit a certain skill ceiling with her.
Unless any of you are above prestige 5 on Valk, you do not rate an opinion. You can have one, but it'll only fall on like-minded ears such as yourself because honestly, you lack the experience. You haven't played enough (even you alpha kids). Check out twitch for Valk mains, play against skilled players if they are willing to help out, practice in *gasp* PRACTICE MODE until you want to punch a hole in your screen from boredom.

Hi, 50ish hours valk player here.
As someone mentioned before: "Valkyrie is the definition of high risk low reward" = she is an excellent character if you're a real tryhard. It's true that she gets punished for every little failure or missclick very severely, but holy kek, on the other side if you manage to kill a player, or solo couple of enemies as Valk - it's the most satisfying moment in the game for me right now.
General advices:
- For any 4v4 mode don't bother in getting as much defense as possible, because you still won't be able to bunker **** against heavy CC high DPS classes. Stamina gear is fine but not too much, you only need it in amount to perform 3-4 shield bash-knockoff chains in a row without total exhaustion. Generally speaking, get as much attack as possible while maintaining high movement speed.
- Don't rely on revenge builds on this class, you won't do **** against pro players in revenge mode, you will get 1/2-heavyhit in revenge anyway and die instantly,
- In 4v4 you need to be a fast moving, agile support glass cannon, runing from point to point helping your teammates by stabbing enemies and knocking them off, but be VERY careful not to interrupt your own teammates - valk's heavies and charge attack are somewhat AoE and will stagger everybody in cone. Don't try to 1v2 if you're not sure about your skills or terrain advantage which leads me to:
- Always keep an eye on terrain advantages, as valk is in my opinion the most crowd-controling class, after warlord in the game. If you want to 1v2+ make sure you're fighting near ledges. Hold your shield charge right before you predict enemy will attack and bash them to fall, or repeat it finishing with head bash which has more throw distance. Remember that even if you're good with valk, your HP is total garbage and orochi will be able to 4-hit you with heavies.
- If you're not on advantageous terrain - run, run the hell outta there and help teammates somewhere else. Don't skirmish people outside of points areas, it's pointless - your damage is to low to murder them fast (you're not PK), so his friend will come and 1v2 you before you manage to kill.
- Valk is a really good counter to enemies in revenge mode. You see your teammate is dying from revenged enemy attacks? - help him out by charging your shield bash and spamming it on the enemy. Even in revenge mode, he won't be able to get up, while your friend will beat the kek out of him.
2v2/1v1 advices:
- First of all - DON'T DISHONOR
- Play defensively, but get aggressive af, once you are 95%+ sure that you'll manage to pull off your combo chains. Wait for the enemy in guard mode, although you can open the fight with spear jump but that's kinda predictable. Get close to your enemy and now there are 4 scenarios: 1. He GB you 2. He awaits to be GB by you and will counter you 3. You wait for him to GB and counter it. 4. He will attack and you dodge back while charging your shield bash. After you counter GB him - short shield bash, then dodge back, charge, long shield bash, he falls down - wait 1 second, get some stamina back, light attack, dodge back and long shield bash, combo time: heavy-shield bash-backheavy=knockoff, repeat 2-3 times but don't drain your stamina completely. After you pulled this all off, gg - enemy has 50% HP less....
... don't get cocky, seriously, I died many times becasue I thought once enemy is 50% less, they're not a threat to me - WRONG, valk will still die from 4 hits from orochi, and orochi get easily pull it off at 50% health.
- Instead get defensive again, parry a couple of times to drain stamina from enemy try to GB him and and heavy attack 1 or 2 times then go defensive again and wait for your final strike. Don't get agressive when enemy is 10-20% HP - you WILL die.
Moveset:
- Don't rely on side-dodge-pierces they look cool, they are fast but if enemy attacks you from the same side you dodge into, you will get hit (because in the split second you perform the attack your ability to block in the direction you're dodging is over). Also the game is buggy and I've got GBed hundrets of times in the middle of performing that.
- Unless you're some kind of super-human with alien reflexes, never rely on bleeding stab attack - it's cool, and super satisfying upon hit (enemy usually stop for 2 seconds and "WHAT? Valkyrie? Bleeding? How?) I usually go for this attack when I see the enemy is spamming left-click from one side. (for example PK is doing - left-left-left then on the 4 time I do it)
- Shield bash (both versions long and short) are your bread and butter - use it all the time, especially after countering the GB
- Never heavy attack since it the slowest attack in the game. It's wiser to feint them - press E while heavy attacking, then press GB+back for feinting into shield bash - super unpredictable.
Tips against certain classes:
- Orochi - their armor is good and their attack is stupidly high, as well as mobility - play defensively, drain them off from stamina or GB them
- Kensei - if you know how to parry you shouldn't have problems with them
- Lawbringer - it takes huge amount of time to 1v1 lawbringer on valk, don't get GB, and dodge his charges, never be too aggressive on them.
- Peacekeeper - On the contrary I advise being aggressive here, block them couple of times (don't rely on parrying), distract them, try to GB and pull off your combo chain. Don't charge your shield bashes - they will dodge to the side and stab you immideately.
- Berserker - heard to deal with - they dodge your shield bash and attack you, wait for them to get out of stamina, feint heavies into combo chains.
- Warden/Warlord - with the shoulder/shield bash spamming out of nowhere all the time it's hard to deal with them. Valkyries back-dodge doesn't have enough distance and you will get hit anyway. My best advice here is to always keep your distance to them, and harass them with light attacks and GB.
in move list says that shield tackle can be canceled in guardbreak:
but it is not work."Press Left Mouse Click or LT to cancel Shield Tackle with pouncing thrust.Press Middle Mouse Click or X to cancel shield tackle with guardbreak."
only in pouncing thrust.
maybe i do something wrong? please, tell me
bugged or not correctly implemented.Originally Posted by grinvich77 Go to original post
either way you are right: the cancel into GB is NOT working still.
and looking at their "patching-cycles" (if one can even call it that) this will probably be fixed anywhere between 1-5 months XD

I was not in beta or alpha, but I've been playing Valkyrie since the game came out and I have been having reasonable success with it. I don't know if i'm getting easy opponents compared to what others are getting, but with a little bit of practice i find the valkyrie to be insanely overpowered and a little unstoppable if played correctly, Every death i have with her now is either to environment or fighting more then 1 at a time or my own stupidity
Tips:
1) fight the lvl 2 bot valk as valk on custom match set it for 99 rounds and watch her just rip through you a few dozen times as you learn her overpowered extensive moveset and how the computer plays her. once you think youve learnt practice on a level 1 valk learn what you are doing, go back to the level 2 and resume dying a lot, repeat until you start winning a bit on level 2 without exploiting the environment (this took me a long time, it was not easy to learn and even then you will die lots in your first pvp matches till you learn to implement what you've learnt)
2) tip you need to learn the balance between defence and attack because you cant take much damage so you cant allow too many hits to land on you equally you must be hyper aggressive with your attacks when you can because you will be going for death by a thousand cuts, if you are fast enough on the quick attack you can sometimes interrupt your opponents attacks (learn who you can and cant interupt), if you arent then block it all and when your opponent flinches go nuts with your moveset in every direction till they get a block in and then go back on the def and if they dont attack immediately then you take up the assault again
3) mix up your attacks you have a wide and varied set you are not limited to doing the same thing over and over keep your opponent guessing, there aren't many valks out there so not many people know how to fight her in my opinion or know the full extent of what she can do or all the ways she can mix and match her different moves
4) start fights with a running lunge, if you time it right the range is insane and you will get a large starting hit, if your opponent doesnt start attacking go mad with quick attacks and see if they can block
5) learn all the ways you can knock someone down, this in my opinion is her most powerful trait that she has so many ways to knock down, my personal favourite is light attack hit light attack hit backwards heavy, i also like heavy attack blocked block break (rams head butt unblockable) block break again backwards heavy there are other ways, the bot will show you them all and you can try to replicate them, when your opponent is down heavy attack light attack and backwards heavy to bring them down again heavy attack and retreat to regain stamina, if they block at any point in this go back on defensive, if they dont take up the attack then go back to attacking
6) shield bash into jumping lunges to give your opponent a surprise, every valk jumps back with shield and holds it then at short range does a really powerful shield bash that is hard to dodge but at long range your opponent dodges it easily instead at long range before you hit them with the shield press light attack for a really quick lunging strike that is damned cool and hard to avoid, leap straight in to more light attacks from there
7) make your opponent miss, dodge back, keep proper distance, if you range it right you can land a heavy as they miss or as they recover once you hit take up a light attack assault and try to knock them down
8) for some reason her ability to break from block breaks is atrocious, i dont know why, i have no trouble on other characters but on her and find it impossible to break the block break so do your best to avoid having your block broken especially around ledges
9) very rarely use heavy attacks, you want that damage, but if you time it wrong you just get punched in the face for your trouble and lose all your momentum
10) practice a bit against the lvl 2 valk bot every time before you go in to multiplayer, this is a hard char to play if you're complacent or a bit rusty you will get demolished, warm up to playing people
you start off with her and you think it is the worst thing ever, but if you keep at it and keep taking the losses eventually you might start finding the balance to play her and then she becomes overpowered, you will find that you have the skillset to win any 1v1 duel unless you make a mistake, when i play her i like to think of it as the mountain vs the viper in Game of Thrones.... just don't get cocky at the end or it will all go wrong
hope this might help
