Dude just go away. You're in the thread about when will this game release clamoring for the game to hurry up and get here. You don't even back your opinions up with NOT purchasing a game that you don't agree with its practices so everything you say in here is moot. Go troll in another thread.

My god some people are just ridiculous. As the op stated, the gear stats only apply to the 4v4 modes, and honestly even if they applied to all modes, it wouldn't give that much of an advantage. its mainly for cosmetics and the stats are mainly for min/maxing different builds.

From my brief beta on PS4, steel can be used to purchase the premium crates that drops random armor, weapons and weapon parts. If you don't like the parts, then they can be dismantled for material.

You accumulate material to upgrade gear and weapon stats. The stats affected are both offensive and defensive play. Which includes weapon damage increase.

Weapon material and steel are both used to level up each weapon/part and armor gear.

So if I buy a lot of steel, then purchase a lot of premium crates and obtain extra loot that I can use to level up gear and weapons, then the only way I could have a slight advantage would be in the 4 vs 4 matches right?

Just need some clarification. Because the servers would place me with matching gear level players in other modes.

    Thanks.
Just adding and agreeing here with what AveImperator85 is saying:

The gate on how it cannot make a person OP is your level. When you purchase gear, it's based on your Reputation level. 0-20 is Repuation 0. That's maximum of level 6 gear. Reputation 1 is level 7-12 gear. That's another 20 levels of gameplay. It took me around 40 hours to get to Reputation 3. It continues on from there in the same fashion.

Now keeping that in mind, the level 1-6 gear, reputation 0, is trash. There are no types of like epics or anything mixed it. It's strictly level based. It's ALL level 1-6.

Loot drops from matches as well as steel. You get 2000 steel just from doing the starting tutorials. They take like... 8 minutes. You get 6000 steel for doing the campaign. That's 8000 steel. That's enough to buy the highest level/best type of crate 16 times and you're still at reputation 1. Along with gear drops from matches, trust me, you will NOT need more steel for anything. In fact, I don't even spend ANY steel on gear at all until Reputation 1 because it's low level and just for looks really. I wait until reputation 1 then spend a bunch of steel to get maxed out reputation 1 gear on and still have steel left over because I've been earning it from matches, dailies, and "quests" you get every so many hours.

The point is that at EVERY single reputation level, you have MORE THAN ENOUGH steel to get everything you really want/need. The only thing I can see wanting to buy steel for would be for cosmetic items like the helmet crests which cost tons of steel, like 3k each or animations for executions or outfits that have no stats on them. There's really NO reason to buy steel for anything else, really, anything at all.

In 40 hours of gameplay in this last beta I probably made around... 15 to 16k steel. The highest cost mythic costume is 15k steel.

The other big thing to note is that gear matters very little. It just adjusts your playstyle. Maxed out gear might make your sword do MAX damage but it will make your other two stats like Defense and Revenge mode, VERY low, almost non-existent. Same if you max out a Defense on your weapon, your other two stats including attack will be VERY low. The stats also make VERY little difference. Skill wins over gear stats EVERY time. They will never sway a fight if the guy isn't skilled and good gear in this game only equals time played, not skill.

Last beta I was fighting a guy in a dominion match that had a 48 gear level. I had a 1 gear level. I noticed NO difference whatsoever in killing him over and over.

Public Service Announcement for the education of stupid people? Haha, consider it our good deed for the day.

Also, I don't mind if they buy the game. If braindead idiots with no understanding of how the game works want to play the game, fine. I enjoy the occasional easy win.

Believe me I hate micro-transactions and wish it had never become a thing but this is the world we live in now and it's not going away. At least they did it right in this game.
They could just make cosmetics unlockable faster. No need for pay or grind. But they chose not to

Please don't go full stockholm syndrome

Somebody disagreeing with your opinion on something doesn't instantly mean they're trolling. You want to gloss over the fact there is an obvious advantage them be my guest but you're just ignoring obvious logic. You remind me of a flat earther if I'm honest.

Did you even read my thread at all? There is ZERO advantage from buying steel. ZERO.
I agree that gear and buying it with real money isn't a problem at all, but saying there is zero advantage from buying steel isn't quite accurate either. There is an advantage, albeit a minimal one.

Yeah, except he's actually backed up his position with FACTS about how the gear system actually works while all YOU'VE done is dunk your head in the sand and scream "GEAR = ADVANTAGE YOU'RE DUMB IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME!!!"

Let me say this one last time for you:

You launch the game for the first time, drop $50 on Steel, buy a ****-ton of loot crates, get a bunch of GRAY, lvl 1-6 items for ONE hero...you're not really going to have that much of an advantage over anyone. Your stats will be tweaked to whatever your playstyle is, but ALL gear has a tradeoff. +Attack/-Defense, so you deal more damage, but you take more damage as well. It's a tradeoff, not an advantage.

You CANNOT be lvl 1 and get high-level epics. The gear system does not work that way. Do you understand now?

I do. However the thread is about there being no advantage at all. That's not true is it?.
