So i was interested in the game from the early E3 trailer on but then totally forgot about it. Heard in a podcast about the open beta and ofcourse i tried it. First, it did convince me to buy the game cause it unique and well crafted in many aspects, BUT if it wasnt for the good job ubisoft is doing with updating Rainbow 6 siege i doubt i wouldve bought in before reviews and/or sales. I trusted you, dont make me regret it
On the visuals and sound i think there isnt much to say. The animations are fluid and natural, the game in general looks good and the artstyle is very fitting. Sound also really well done, some of the character special attack sounds can start to be slightly annoying but they are also cues you can use to parry/block etc so its ok.
Game modes im not sure yet and im interested what will be in the full release. I hope for competitive ladders, bigger matches (8v8 for example) and tweaks to existing gamemodes.
Deathmatch for example needs 2 very important fixes, powerups shouldnt spawn at the start so people dont just turn and run at the beginning of a round. Also nerf reviving either in time or power (dead respawning at 50% hp&sta for example) so it doesnt become a giant game of freeze tag.
On the connection.. well many many maaaany others have said it. Dedicated servers can be expected from a full price AAA big publisher prime product in damn 2017. People will have issues ,it will hurt the game and makes hacking much easier. Also work hard to keep the game cheat free.
Controls imho it just needs 2 simple fixes.
- custom keybinds for the controller. fixed keybinds are just bad for a ton of reasons.
- M&KB guardstance should keep blocking in the direction that was last set or atleast keep it active way longer. i personally switched to m&kb after 15hrs cause of the for me bad controller layout. it works great other then the fact that mouse guard inputs only stay active for like half a second which is a huge disadvantage and turns it into a rythm game to just block repeated attacks from 1 direction. It sometimes also seems hard to refresh the active block. This is very simple to fix and would greatly enhance the m&kb expirience.
For balance i wont comment much, as long as ubisoft keeps at it and isnt as lazy as for example the blizzard hearthstone team ( ;P ) im confident that things work out. Sure we only scratched the surface but for a beta it mostly seems balanced.
Only thing i see as a real issue so far is revenge gear, revenge should be almost exclusively for 1vX situations. if you can gear so it comes up almost evry 1v1 then we have a problem.
gameplay in general feels good. i think in the long run with more expirience some things could need an improvement in how fluid and natural some things work. also XvX fights often become really messy...
For the future i really hope we get constant updates. dont make the mistake of selling maps and thus splitting the playerbase. i hope we get new maps, classes, modes and maybe even added moves/feats to existing classes.
