I don't know if you know this but there was a tip in game that stated very clearly that the shape of the emblem determines which faction the players are from.

Samurais were rectangles, Knights were Shields/Crests and Vikings were circles.

I did not see any knights.

Everyone was a samurai.

And there were more Vikings than Knights.

In the full game, will we be fighting alongside the opposing factions generals or will we be fighting alongside fellow members of our own faction?

I assume it will stay the same. I was happy they didn't restrict players from the same faction only being able to play with each other, and while I have friends who chose the dishonorable factions and want to lose every faction war, I do enjoy their company. Even playing with dirty samurai or nasty vikings I can at least know that my win will contribute to my factions glory.
