Overhyped games are almost causal, but with For Honor i had different expectations. It started pretty smoothly, 60 fps on highest detail will made everybody's day, the graphics are truly gorgeous, the first fighting experience really catches you, and its really fun to play, for the first 10 hours.... Than you will discover, the complexity, of the fight 1v1 or 4v4, it becames more frustrating because you are new to this game, and matchmaking litteraly join you to fight with far more experienced players, who you dont stand a chance against. After 2/3 minutes of fighting with one of those u can get close to killing him, but than you realize the simple block / hit & dodge combat is way more complicated, since your enemies starts to use spells, revenge mod, heals themself or just rekt you in 3 seconds playing berserker, not giving you a chance to response. The feeling of role is ruined, you fight with a guy and when you are about to kill him he heals, the feeling of tryhardness or surviving of the fitest is ruined, the simple and fun playstyle is gone by this point. The games just feel like every others, it loosing its uniqe and surprise you in really bad way, it has a really a little to offer. So basicly you spent another hours and hours to learning the combos against insanely hard bots, you waste your time, until you get a little better at it, but after all this hours, you just feel empty by the game, the combat becames boring and repetative, Even if you trained the ****ing berserker can still own your entire team. The content is worthless all the maps are same, you still doing same **** "capture & kill" or in better cases just "kill", look at the others mobas, they, are simple but even if you get to the point its not surprising anymore, you still play it because of complexity in its simplicity (different spells, different combos, different plays & builds, variety of heroes), they got the "dope" which this game is lack of. so after 80-th game you stop enjoying it, you will loose the joy of killing somebody, because of those spells/items/idc and revenge mode. You don't feel like you used your pure skill and intelligence to kill somebody, you are just using combos you learnt and worked best. don't get me wrong but im sure, that the developers of the game designed it only in 1v1 mod, because in teamfights it really lacks of speed. you feel so slow, and still u can survive in 1v4, which doesn't makes any sense. The moment when this game fell for me and i ragequited following uniinstalation was, when i was fighting a guy we were at opening, and i litteraly dodged and moved to the safe wall side, so he cant throw me off, but he just pressed two buttons, my character get automaticly moved to the corner and then he ****ing pulled me with his oaken shield, no matter how hard i tried to move to other side. I dont want to say this game sucks, every game has it mistakes but, dont buy this game... you invest hours to get good at it and it wont pay back, you dont get good feeling of killing somebody, you wont have the motivation to get better, so far i can say this game will never get succesful in e-sport sphere, the better games didn't and beautiful graphics won't save it. It is just moneymaker for the company, and will be popular for 3 max 4 months, when everybody gets tired of its trash, and find out there is nothing unique about this game.
And i know this game's gonna get story mod, but tell me honestly do you think it will save the game ? The story mod for moba based game will never work, i believe you know it, the good story mode games are those who were meant by the start of the developing to be the story games. If there is a story games, little bit of people gives **** about its mulitplayer and its not that succesful anyway ( assassin's creed - from this company). I rate this game 2/5,.
Have a good day, D.
I love the pace of the game, or how "Slow" the combat is. It gives time for people to switch blocking and really think about there next attack. It feels to me a lot like those battles from movies where there are very little sword swings thrown while they walk around each other with intensity, and I think that's what the dev's where going for.
I am so sick of twitch gameplay games like COD or Counter Strike, where it comes down to who can push the mouse button faster and react faster. I don't think there is any skill in it besides muscle memory in most cases because there is no time to think outside the box and apply strategy. There are some people that do manage to every now and then apply strategic plays in CoD, but at the end of the day teams of the worlds best will employ strategies, name the plays, and execute them like computers, aka. muscle memory to recall a play.
Its good to see games that slow down and employ on the fly tactics to adapt to situations that evolve other players, but also with this game environments. The position and how you play can directly affect the player on the battlefield.
Although your post has a few valid points, I don't think your thoughts on combat are correct. The combat is some of the best I have experienced in a fantasy/medieval setting. Dose it need flushing out and nerfing? Absolutely. But is it the right speed? Tempo? And offer a different experience each time? Yes, I think they got it spot on. Especially with the movement and weight of the characters as well, noting beats the way they move with heavy footsteps and the smashing power of there swords.
I didn't read your whole post but I think I understand what you are getting at as I also have a problem with it.
This game rewards aggressiveness. Even if you have a defensive counter-attacker like orochi. It is just way too hard to counter / parry / block / throw counter everything. And aggressiveness gets rewarded because its way too hard to react to all the button mashing you just get clobbered. Your only hope is doding and spamming yourself. They need to make it easier to play defensively and playing outnumbered.
didn't read OP, but I disagree when you (bengalz) say its too hard to counter/parry/block/throw counter everything. I can maby see countered gaurd block being a bit difficult, but I feel that if it was changed it'd be to easy to counter, and finding a happy middle would be extremely difficult. In real fighting, whether with guns, swords, or even hands, being aggressive is normally favored over just sitting there being defensive (unless you counter).
For me the game at the beginning was great but as I kept playing I started to enjoy it less until eventually I learned the mechanics and started to really appreciate the combat and the general feel.
At first I got angry because not only does it keep cutting out and pairing to find out something went wrong with the match is annoying but when I finally was in game I did start to realise all those 'super power' moves had counters . Even though I did not know how to do a Warden charge I learnt how to counter dodge and strike effectively against it eventually as I started understanding the game I learned to love it again especially all it's little details from movement, flow, graphics combat etc .
It actually breaks my heart to see such a game NOT go the League Of Legends route or make it Free To Play the reason Being is because not everyone has or is willing to spend 70 to 210 dollars and because this is a Online only game it pretty much depends on players it will die out eventually like the multiplayer games similar to its kind because in a year to 2 years time the hype will go less people will play and eventually it will take 1000 years to find people to vs I mean it's micro transaction already so I wouldn't see the difference if it was open to all people to play .
